England had lost eleven consecutive one day internationals in and against India before this series began. They still haven't won, but claiming first and last game will given them enough happiness on the way back home..
Coming into this fifth and final ODI at Dharamshala, which was turned into a day game dew to dropping temperature, Indians had already secured series taking 3-1 lead and lacked motivation but England didn't take things lightly. Coming into this match 1-2 down, England had to win today to keep the series alive and they did fairly well too but Indians stayed in front throughout and got home chasing moderate target at Mohali..
Invited in to bat first, English were off to ultra-cautious start with openers Alastair Cook and Ian Bell taking their time against the new ball and even arrival of free scoring Kevin Pietersen didn't turn the momentum around. England impressed when they scored over 300 runs in 1st ODI and bowlers somehow defended them (although by just 9 runs) but since then, visitor's batting is back to the slump it has been on previous several ODI tours. Bowled out for just 158 runs in 2nd ODI, English today managed 3 runs less, and Indians raced home with 7 wickets and 131 balls to spare (a new record for India against England)..

In every other match, there's someone who tries to save the sinking board but often, the effort isn't enough unless he's given some support from other end. Today, England had almost arrested the game but captain MS Dhoni wasn't giving away and then Ravindra Jadeja provided the perfect support to lure Indians out of danger. Under pressure home team who had lost first ODI by 9 runs, collected 110 runs in last 10 overs and ended up winning the match by 127 runs..

Defeats at the hands of India A and Delhi in warm-up matches, England's new year may not have started on a confident note but today, in this first ODI, they showed they're back here to compete once again after winning the test series before returning home for Christmas..
On a flat deck at Saurashtra cricket association ground in Rajkot, hosting it's first game, over 600 runs were scored but at the end, late charge by Samit Patel and Craig Kieswetter who collected 38 runs in over no.49 and 50, proved to be the difference. Indians fought hard, but fell 9 short of their ambitious target.

When chasing team wins off the last ball, one thing is for sure, that the match was close. and in close matches, fielding is often the difference. Today, England outfielded Indians at Wankhede and snatched away the series leveling win. Welcome Christmas..

Sadly, Ajinkya Rahane couldn't do much at home ground while Gautam Gambhir dished out a scratchy innings. After winning the test series, England named such a rookie filled T20 squad that almost had no chance against Indians at home who're a much better team of shorter formats. Either feeding youngsters some experience or lack of strength in domestic circuit, English went down without much fight in this first T20, barring a solid half century from Alex Hales. Yuvraj Singh's allround show impressed one and all as home team raced to 5 wicket win with 13 balls in hand..

Alastair Cook was born the year England last won a test series in India = 1985. 28 years later, in his first tour as captain, Cook guided his team to memorable victory, and was unanimously adjudged man of the match. After losing 1st test by 9 wickets, England adjusted to conditions rapidly, winning 2nd test by 10 wickets and 3rd test by 7 wickets. In this 4th test match that home team had to win to square the series, visitors showed immense determination to force a draw. Indians lost a home series after 8 years.

We're never told what goes around in a dressing room, and we shouldn't, but when a team becomes a bunch of boys in which some are just going through like a day-job, some struggling to find their form, some trying their best but get unlucky while few throw away opportunity on intention ~ that's exactly what it is ~ A bunch of boys. Not a team, fighting for no cause. Indians turned up demanding a turner here at Eden Gardens, weren't granted one and got ravaged by English "true" team fighting for a common cause which is to win a test series in India in three decades..

It won't be fair to criticise Indians only after one loss, although fact can't be denied that they didn't fight their optimum ability. For now, lets praise England who quickly made the adjustments after defeat in 1st test and carved their way to solid 10 wicket victory here at Wankhede on a pitch that turned square..
Kevin Pietersen, making his way back into English squad after detailed talks with his mates and management, played an unbelievable innings while Alastair Cook continued his form to score back to back century. It all began with a nasty question from Ravi Shastri at the toss; "this series must be a good learning experience for some of your players", commentator quizzed. England captain Alastair Cook, who was already sad having called wrong side of the coin, dodged the bullet proudly, announcing his team isn't here in India to gain experience but to win a test series. By the end of first two days and two sessions into day three, it indeed seemed like English boys desperately needed divine support but what followed in next two days proved England may really be here to defeat Indians who haven't lost a home series in 8 years..

There always has been tough competition for batting spots in Indian line-up and even after the retirement of prominent names like Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman, it continues..

In times when teams begin tours with just one odd practice match, England, traditionals that they are, like to spend as much on-field time as possible. On this Indian tour, they've opted for three tour matches. and began well too, resisting future star-studded India A in a 3 day game..

Not too long ago, trying to buy tickets for International cricket matches in India was like finding that specific pearl out of the whole ocean. Reason? authorities didn't bother as much, and why would they when demand was so high and tickets were sold hand to hand. Thankfully, situation has changed now. England may have lost their No.1 rank on ICC charts but they continue to be one of the most consistently performing test teams around the world. Having said that, sub-continent remains unchartered territory for them..
Fact : England have won only one out of 12 tests in India since January 1985 when they won their last test series in the country, losing 3 series and drawing one since then.
Will 2012 be the fortune changing year for English side? only time will tell but here's the 16 member squad selected to participate in 4 test match series in November and December 2012.

England tour of India starts late October and is schuduled to end late January, comprising 5 practice matches, 4 tests, 2 T20 matches and 5 one day games. England will break just before Christmas Eve and get to go home for the holidays and then return to resume the rest of the series after the New Year.
Ahead of the tour, England will partake in a 3 day training camp at the ICC Global Cricket Academy in Dubai. This was confirmed by the official ECB website.
