How many tied matches have been in world cup? just 3 prior to today when India managed to conceed 338 runs at Bengaluru against an inspired England team. It was a pendulum like cricket match where Indians raced through after electing to bat first but England bowled them out inside quota of overs and then made a strong start to their mountaineous chase but middle order hiccups pegged them back untill second last over in which couple of sixes brought match back into balance and ended up as a tie..
Sachin Tendulkar scored his 47th ODI century after rocket begining by Virendra Sehwag but Tim Bresnan bowled accurately in batting powerplay to salvage some hope for his team. Bresnan's fifer was the reason Indians couldn't reach illusive 350 run mark despite some good innings by Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni. James Anderson finished with poorest English figures in world cup games.
Andrew Strauss lead England's chase and he matched the special innings played by Tendulkar, if not bettered it. Chanceless, except a tough chance at mid-on for Harbhajan Singh, England captain single handedly kept his team in hunt before Ian Bell got going and scored a half century that had put visitors well within striking distance. Andrew Strauss became the first England captain to score a century in cricket world cup. Hoping to finish the game quickly, England opted for batting powerplay in the 42nd over and that hurt them bad as only 25 runs came and 4 wickets fell, 3 of them to Zaheer Khan. 31 required off last two overs, Ajmal Shahzad and Graeme Swann hit a six each against Piyush Chawla which left just 14 runs required off last over. Bowled by Munaf Patel, English needed 2 runs off last ball but found only one to give us the 4th tied one day world cup match.
This was the highest score made against England ever and they matched it.
