Younis Khan, newly appointed as full time Pakistan captain, made his first decision wrong by inviting Lankans into bat first on a placid National stadium pitch.
Srilankans marched upto 644 before declaring on 7 wickets, providing a chance for Younis Khan to correct his fault. and so he did, with splendid triple century and took home team for an unlikely lead of 121, which proved to be enough for Pakistan fast bowlers to scare Lankans in the second innings.
Lankans lost 5 wickets in their 31 over second innings before umpires and both captains agreed to call off the match as draw!

Srilanka don't use their regular wicket keeper, and vice-captain, Kumar Sangakkara behind the wicket in test matches.. instead, Prasanna Jayawardene commands the responsibility of keeping wickets when Sangakkara plays purely as a batsman.
Srilankan squad for test series in Pakistan, February-March 2009, also has Chaminda Vaas coming back to international cricket after the left arm seamer refuses to retire. In fact, Chaminda Vaas will be a fresh breath of air for Lankans who recently lost home ODI series to Indians and also the concluding Twenty20 International.

Tillakaratane Dilshan is what Mahendra Singh Dhoni is for India, or Michael Hussey (now David Hussey) are for Australia & what JP Duminy is doing for South Africa lately. These cricketers have not exceptional talent with bat but sheer love for the game and ability to hit the ball not to fielders but in between them make these players exceptional.
Dilshan also reminds me of former Lankan middle order bat Roshan Mahanama and Michael Bevan of Australia who always batted at the most risky position for their team & saw them home most of time.
Tillakaratane Dilshan has hit purple patch with bat since Test series in Bangaldesh 2 months ago and Srilankan think tank is ... .. Read complete article |
