South Africa ODI squad for England tour 2012 - Elgar new face.

Following South Africa's massive victory over the English in the first of three Tests, the Proteas have already started prioritizing and a result of this has been the resting of Veteran batsman Jacques Kallis for the ODI series that follow the Tests in England.

Kallis scored an unbeaten 182 in the first test which saw the visitors win by an innings and 12 runs. This puts them in a commanding lead for the rest of the series where England will have to win both the matches to keep their prized #1 Test ranking. South Africa however, have moved on to start the selection process for the ODI series.

Dale Steyn in England to win test series, not make friends.

Dale Steyn, South Africa’s fast bowler is currently rated as the best bowler in the world (ICC rankings). When he and his team start play against their hosts England, he will be an X-factor in each and every match. The amount of confidence and determination oozing out of him is amazing, and what’s better is that he often converts words into actions. In a recent interview about the upcoming series, he said that he wanted to scare the living daylights out of England’s batsmen: something not many bowlers have achieved in the past.

Tour match : Kent and rain frustrate South Africans at Canterbury.

After healthy warm-up against Somerset, South Africans would have thought of dominating this 3 day match against lesser known Kent and find a decisive result going into the first test but as it turned out, Kent, specially their openers, stood head and shoulders with the visitors and then considerable amount of rain washed out hopes of a result..

Electing to bowl first, Proteas wanted their new ball bowlers to destroy opposition by captain Sam Northeast and young Daniel Bell-Drummond added solid 81 before Dale Steyn made the break through shorly before the lunch break. South Africans all charged up for England test series.

South Africa, who are in England for quite a few matches including series in all three formats, might not have had enough warm-up games there, but that hasn't brought them down even a little bit, and they look like they are raring to get started with the actual series, which starts at the Oval this Thursday.

Mark Boucher's eye injury, which forced him to retire from international cricket, has hit the team pretty hard, no doubt, but the Proteas have shown great resilience. Their team spirit and composure was tested in the game at Taunton against Kent, and they performed really well.

AB de Villiers confident of keeping wicket and scoring runs.

South Africa’s batsman AB de Villiers will replace Mark Boucher as the team’s wicketkeeper in their tour of England, with the first Test of a 3-match series starting on the 19th of July
(Fixtures : SA in Eng 2012).

Boucher suffered severe injury to his left eyeball and after a surgery, decided to announce his retirement from the game. South Africa have since called up Thami Tsolekile as a replacement, but de Villers will be keeping wicket for his team in at least the first Test at the Oval.

Tour match : Somerset test out South Africans at Taunton.

Over four months at home barring those players who were part of IPL, South Africans embarked on a fresh season and were given a testing warm-up by Somerset at Taunton in a two day game..

Electing to bat first, home team were off to terrible start with two of their top batsmen got run out while two others were dismissed by new ball bowlers within the first hour before Peter Trego lead the fight back with James Hildreth. Trego's century came off just 60 balls and then Chris Meschede launched a half century while Hildreth completed his ton. Somerset declared their innings confidently on the first day itself.

Proteas targeting number 1 test ranking - Graeme Smith.

England have had their hands full for some time now, with back to back series against some of the best cricket teams in the world. They just won an ODI series against #1 ranked (ODIs) Australia, making it their 7th consecutive series win at home. After this series ends, they’ll have a little more than a week to recuperate as South Africa make their way to English soil for 3 Tests, 5 ODIs and 3 T20s. The South African captain Graeme Smith however, seems confident that his team can clinch the Investec Test series win, and has set his sights on dislodging England as the #1 Test team.
