Day 2 : Sangakkara 199 not out, Pakistan almost out.

Pakistan won many matches last season but so far on this Sri Lankan tour, they're yet to turn up. After losing the ODI series, they had a terrible first day of test series and today wasn't any better either..

The start of the second day was a time when both teams needed to push it a little further. Pakistan had kept the pressure on since the first ball and got the deserving wicket of the Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene. Ajmal, who had got the two wickets yesterday, was ecstatic. With Samaraweera up next, Pakistan would need to take the fresh batsman out fast if they wanted to put some real heat on Lanka.

Ajmal, still ... .. Read complete article

Day 1 : Dilshan & Sangakkara century shut Pakistan down.

With their dreadful ODI series performance behind them, Pakistan were looking to make a comeback of sorts in the 3-Test series which started today at the Galle stadium in Sri Lanka. The hosts had dominated almost every aspect of the game in the ODIs, with a thriller of a final which saw them win the series 3-1 in the last over. Pakistan would have, no doubt, been affected by this loss psychologically, so they were keen on getting an early advantage to help cope with the mental pressure.

Sri Lanka on the other hand, have been in excellent form. The series win had made them all the more confident and they would bring the game to the visitors ... .. Read complete article

Younis Khan's poor form concerns Pakistani selectors.

Pkistan cricketer Younis Khan’s poor form has brought about a lot of concerns for Pakistan’s selectors, mainly to the chief selector Iqbal Qasim, who was quoted saying that the entire panel will discuss Younis’ future in ODIs with him after he returns from the tour in Sri Lanka.

The 34-year-old former captain had managed to score a total of just 10 runs in the 3 ODIs against Sri Lanka and was eventually dropped from the eleven. Lankans handled pressure better, says Mahela Jayawardene.

The truly epic end to the 5-match series which saw the Lankans snatch it from the jaws of defeat and get their first series win in over 15 months, was because Sri Lanka handled their pressure well against Pakistan, said captain Mahela Jayawardene.

Sri Lanka beat Pakistan in the final ODI of the series after coming back strong from 138/6 when they needed 110 runs from 94 deliveries. Angelo Mathews turned out to be the savior of the day and of the series, standing tall amongst his collapsing partners. Pakistan were in a similar but much better position in the 4th ODI at 166/2 and needed 78 from 75 deliveries. They lost that match, losing 7 wickets in ... .. Read complete article

Sri Lanka and Pakistan test bench strength before World T20.

ICC World Twenty20 2012 begins in September and both Sri Lanka and Pakistan will look to gain valuable experience and T20 match practice from the bilateral T20 series that begins on June 1. A number of Sri Lankans participated in the recently concluded IPL and hence are obviously in the ‘T20’ mode but Pakistan missed out on the IPL owing to diplomatic differences between the governments of Pakistan and India. So, if there’s one team that has everything to gain from this series, it’s Pakistan.
