Twenty20 : Luck-less kiwis lose by 1 run.

As many as 8 players made their debut today in this one off Twenty20 International, which New Zealand lost by a lone run while chasing smallish target of 150 in 20 overs.

Brad Haddin captained Australia today in absence of Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke and Michael Hussey and didn't do a bad job. Electing to bat first, Haddin himself opened with pocket dymanite David Warner, guiding Aussies to healthy start.

Daniel Vettori shuffled his bowlers around artfully, blocked boundaries even when 6 overs of power play were on which fetched him wickets of both openers Vettori himself bowled 4 economical overs (from T20 cricket standards) at 5.75 runs per over, picking up crucial wicket of David ... .. 5th ODI : Haddin heroics : Guptill gutsy : Rain wins : Series drawn 2-2.

I was asked 2 days ago at itsonlycricket forum about the situations in which this Australia vs New Zealand ODI series will be drawn.. I fun-fully answered a tie or a rain abandoned situation as the two possibilities for a draw but never thought this would be the case.. and guess what - it happened today!

Pouring down from the morning at Gabba ground in Brisbane, this final onedayer between Australia and New Zealand finally started just half an hour before the cut-off time.. 22 overs were given to Australians to bat, with 4 overs of mandatory powerplay and 2 overs each of batting & bowling power plays.

Aussie top order failed as they have ... .. Read complete article

4th ODI : Hussey brothers draw Aussies level, 1 game to go..

New Zealand won first two ODIs of this 2009 Chappell-Hadlee series but both of those wins were narrow. Kiwis had failed to register a thumping win despite bowling incredibly well in those two games.

Next two game, rival Australians tightened up their game and successfully squared series 2-2 today with fifth & final one day international to be played at Gabba in Brisbane on Friday, the 13th.

Batting second on all three occasions, New Zealand captain Danil Vettori opted to bat first after winning the toss in this Adelaide ODI and his team went off to a respectable start with Brendon McCullum & Guptill opening the innings against accurate Ben Hilfenhaus & Nathan Bracken who was ... .. 3rd ODI : Brad Haddin beats Grant Elliott in battle of maiden centuries

Even though today's cricket is more muscular than artistic, we still have vacancy for classical batsmanship. sadly, there aren't many around.

Grant Elliott is one rookie in same mold.. Born in South Africa but shifted to New Zealand for the same reason why Kevin Pietersen switched to England (quota system in Protea's team selection), Elliott was given an opportunity by Kiwi selectors inside 6 months the day he qualified New Zealand residence-ship.

Today, in his 14th ODI, Elliott scored his first International century for which he must have dreamed for decades. Against Australia, in Australia ~ even more memorable from a Newzealander's perspective and he also picked up 2 top class wickets but the thing ... .. Read complete article

2 narrow wins for New Zealand : Australia Trail series 2-0.

Coming in to lead the side as selectors wanted captain Ricky Ponting to rest before revenge series in South Africa, Michael Clarke termed losing a home ODI series to rival New Zealand as "unimaginable".

Well, 24 hours later, New Zealand huffed & puffed their way to a 2-0 lead in this Commonwealth Bank 5 ODI series. Although Michael Clarke did his bit with a painful 98 off 133 balls, Aussie total of 225 was never going to be enough for visitors in today's modern cricket with batting power play.

Grant Elliott's 61 not out runs proved crucial for New Zealand after fine 3rd wicket partnership between Brendon McCullum and Ross Taylor which set up the ... .. Read complete article

Cricket Australia loves to name test cricket series.. they play Ashes series against England, Border-Gawaskar trophy versus India, Frank-Worell Trophy rivalry against West Indies whereas Test series every second year against New Zealand is known as Trans-Tasman Trophy.
