Itsonlycricket has recieved dozens of emails, specially from English & Aussie fans, asking why India vs Pakistan cricket matches contain so much of attention. and why experts consider Ind v Pak test series bigger than Ashes?
Looking at this second test match at Kolkata - we've our first reason - both teams bitterly hate losing to each other! consider the following..
Expirience : 570 test matches for Pakistan team (collectively) as compared to 742 for Indian players.
Add injuries to Mohamamd Asif, Sohail Tanvir & captain Shoaib Mallik who didn't play this match. In fact, 197 overs were played by India in the test and Pakistan's permier bowler - Shoaib Akhtar - bowled just ... .. Read complete article |

Fact : Eden Gardens is one of 3 most unlucky test venues for India.
Situation : at the end of Day 4 of 2nd "Indian Oil" India vs Pakistan test series 2007, home team is pushing hard for a win (leads by 301 runs) but Pakistan might have done enough to earn a crucial draw.
The 22 yard strip in the middle of Eden Gardens (formally known as cricket pitch), is heavily roughed up but there's no pace off the track. Pakistani batsman (specially Misbah-ul-Haq & Mohammad Sami), today showed that with NO BACKLIFT, batsman can go on backfoot and defend everything. Ball is taking spin, but turn is too slow to cause major ... .. Read complete article |

If India wins this Indian oil test series as 2-0 or 3-0, they'll rise to 3rd ranked team in ICC test championships!
Win at Delhi and first 2 days of this Kolkata test showed no reason why Indian team wouldn't do the above.. Pakistani team, so far on this Indian tour, have been struggling with injuries, lacks confidence and are way below the experience Indian side possess.
That said - on second test Day 3 today, Pakistan showed why they're always a competitive side when it comes to playing arch-rivals. no matter how many wounds they are carrying!
Already 616 first innings runs in kitty, Indian bowlers got early wickets at Eden Gardens today, ... .. Read complete article |

Do you know ~ VVS Laxman has not been dismissed in last 4 innings he has played. His last six test match scores read 54, 51, 46*, 72*, 6* & 112* today!
At other end, was Prince of Kolkata - Sourav Ganguly. Left hander made 102 (his best at Eden Gardens, see notes) and every single run was cheered by Eden Gardens fans like a six. some 55,000 spectators practically clapped Sourav to his 13th test 100.
Together, on Ind v Pak 2nd test 2nd day - Laxman & Ganguly proved why Indian batting is one of World's best. Starting second day at 352, Pakistan bowlers opted for defensive strategy & dry up the runs. ... .. Read complete article |

There's an art to everything. including how to create a 22 yard cricket pitch.
Sadly, not many Indian's have mastered that art. our pitches are either dead or utterly unplayable -- when the art of cricket pitch is to give equal/enough encouragement to both batsman and bowlers.
Its rubbish to talk about every home team having its advantage. Australian pitches are 'relatively' quick & South African pitches seam-ing & English and New Zealand wickets swing.. yet, in all countries - you don't see dust coming out of pitch from the 2nd day of a test match, like Eden Gardens & Feroz Shah Kotla. batsman willing to apply himself, can score runs even on last ... .. On Wasim Jaffer's debut, Sanjay Manjrekar (former India & Mumbai batsman, now commentator) proudly said - Jaffer has a compact backfoot technique.. don't think too many bowlers around the world can get him out off a short pitched delivery.
20 balls later, Wasim Jaffer was bowled by Allan Donald in that Wankhede test match! 4 & 6 runs he made as Shaun Pollock got his edge to slips in 2nd innings.. Jaffer was again on back-foot!
I assure the readers that this right handed batsman, on debut day (24th Feb 2000), was nervous. cause I agree with Mr. Manjrekar. the opener does have loads of patience, lazy elegance and very low backlift which allows him not ... .. Read complete article |
