If there's a limit to which world beater can be pushed to, that too at home - Indian team in this 2007-08 test series achieved it.. they just couldn't beat the world beater.
Relaxed not to lose series (infact he won it 2-1, by hook or crook), Ricky Ponting didn't back off to tip India as number 2 test team in the world. his team were looking to dismiss Indian 2nd Innings on this last day of Adelaide test match - like they did a year ago against England, but Virendra Sehwag stood in between. It was a SOLID innings from Sehwag, not the smashing one we generally relate with the Indian opener. Rahul Dravid got a fracture ... .. Read complete article |

Champions take chances. Pressure is privilege. After winning Australian open 2008 last night, Maria Sharapova revealed the above text message Billy Jean King had sent her before her final match.
Something similar would be appropriate for Indian team who are extremely improved test match side but are now looking straight into the barrel of a big gun as Australia push them in this fourth test match of series at Adelaide Oval.
Visitors are 8 runs ahead with 9 wickets remaining to set a target for home team. 90 overs of cricket to be played on last day!
Since series is locked 2-1 in favor of Australia, India had to take the chances to ... .. Read complete article |

Not often in recent times has Aussie top order batting consumed full days play and scored only 260 runs. from 90 overs at runrate of 2.89.
Day 3 being a national holiday in both countries (Republic Day in India, Australia Day in Australia), fans around the world were looking forward to some exiting test cricket which wasn't to be. Mathew Hayden proved he's in exceptional form and Ishant Sharma (nick named - lamboo) showed he's a quick learner & real discovery for India on this Australian tour.
Struggling to time & find gaps, captain Ponting's plan was to bat at the non strikers end. First Hayden, then Hussey & then Michael Clarke (to some extent) took ... .. Read complete article |

Overnight & last recognized batting pair - Tendulkar & Dhoni - added just 27 more runs before being separated. Tendulkar continued, looking more aggressive than yesterday and brought up his 1+1/2 century to raise bat once again. Ricky tossed the ball to his number one bowler - Brett Lee - who maintained perfect line 'short outside off stump' to the genius batsman. Tendulkar tried to cut over the slips, then a hook & then dragged one delivery onto his left knee..
That, you bet, hurt! Some treatment & he was out the next ball. mistimed pull short.
Day 2 script started to unfold Ausstralian way and they were just one good spell away from wrapping up ... .. Read complete article |

Last time India played at Adelaide - they won after conceding over 500 runs in the first innings. Last time Australia played at Adelaide - they too won after giving away 500+ 1st innings score to England in that Ashes 2005 test match.
So, when India score 309 for loss of 5 wickets at the end of Day 1 today, we also know there's plenty of cricket yet to be played in this 2008 India vs Australia 4th test match. Trick is the dip between 1st Innings and 2nd Innings scores made at the Oval shaped cricket ground. West Indies once won here by one run, in 1993. Today, it was a Sachin Tendulkar day at Adelaide Oval ... .. Read complete article |

It's utterly important India don't read too much into their win at Perth, that could be a fluke. It's important Australia make couple of changes to their playing XI - which is never a good sign.
So, in short -- first time in a long time, a touring cricket team has raised question marks over Aussie dominance on test cricket, and if India could win Adelaide test to end the series 2-2, coming from 0-2 behind -- world better starts looking for new champions in test cricket..
Mind you - Border Gawaskar trophy remains with Australia. why? see notes below.
Do you know that TRP rates for the telecast of this 4th ... .. Read complete article |

Tell people their negatives -- and they'll hate you. Tell them what's good in them -- they'll listen to you..
Someone, somewhere must have told the goods Irfan Pathan has in him - fit body, desire & a street smart cricket brain. add some good looks to it, and you've a 23+1/2 year old who can win the World.
Another thing I admire about Irfan Pathan is his presence at the crease. Shaking his head, talking to opposition bowlers and playing all shots in the book. Baroda bowler (who can bat) has a number of deliveries he can bowl any moment. Banana Swing, across the right handers, down the leg side with Keeper standing up and ... .. Read complete article |
