Multi million dollar deals, but very little live cricket to show to their viewers : Nimbus Channel Neo sports's story since its launch in India, has been more of a hope than profitable!
In following, we look at what cricket matches channel neo sports will be showing in year 2008. mind you - nearly all cricket tests & one day internationals telecast by Neosports, are also live on Doordarshan since the most matches are played in India & national broadcaster gets the live feeds..
Anyway, Neosports cricket schedule for year 2008 starts with
South Africa tour of Bangaldesh in month of February & March where 2 test matches & 3 one day ... .. Read complete article |

Once, Tensports used to be the most wanted. Today, this sports channel is picking bits and pieces as they show International cricket to Indian cricket fans, but none involving Indian team.
Come 2008, Tensports is ready with exclusive rights of 9 cricket series, and 2 tours by Indian team - of Zimbabwe & Srilanka. Ask about what other major cricket series will be shown by Tensports = Asia Cup (ODI tournament between India, Pakistan, Srilanka & Bangladesh) to be played in Pakistan in March 2008 and Australia's tour of Pakistan and West Indies in February & May-July respectively.
Don't see anything more very attractive in Tensports cricket bouquet, but their schedule is as following anyway.

Actually it didn't rain that day (April 9, 2006) in Guwahati, but the umpires (AV Jayaprakash & Rudy Koertzen) were not convinced of ground conditions were fit to play. Overnight rain had spoiled the India vs England ODI, and also the day of Guwahati fans who waited patiently to watch a game in their city after good 5 years gap. Inspection after inspection - match was called off without a ball being bowled.
Result of 'no result'- crowd started burning the stands & local police rushed in to counter/control the situation.
Reason I bring this up after good 15 months, is because 1st India vs Pakistan one day cricket match is scheduled to be ... .. Read complete article |

Which words would you associate with men who make coaches.. strict? task master? passionaite? believer?
One more word I suggest for sports coaches is "sacrifice". To understand the point, lets take the example of Australia Dave Whatmore.
Man failed to make a great cricketer out of himself. Then, coaching Srilanka to 1996 World Cup triump to Bangalesh uprise.. Read this piece for more on David Whatmore's background, as in following, we'll see how Whatmore is doing sacrifices for his third assignment.. To be a successful coach of Indian cricket team.
Story goes back just 6 months back when India played bad cricket in World Cup 2007 and were thrown out of the tournament ... .. Read complete article |

Out of 10 test cricket playing nation, only one doesn't have its official website. Its the richest cricket body in the world.. and you guessed right - its BCCI. The board for cricket control in India!
There's no BCCI.com or indian cricket.com on the web, but once a certain site called www.bcci.tv was released during ICC champions trophy in october 2006. here, you've no updates for last 11 months and no one seems to care.
Not sure where all the money goes, but Indian board wants more. BCCI is already worth around Rs 10 billion but again, they're looking for big sponsors for the website to be launched. With Indian team not doing well in world ... .. Read complete article |

Just a thought : Verbal abuse (rough language, taunts) is a nonsense we're wasting time into. There's nothing wrong between India-Australia cricketers. They all are gentlemen. but when nations collide, words are exchanged. and not all of them are sweet, even if it is a game of cricket.
Its time India played some cricket to start scoring wins. Seniors need to show the way..
-- "I don't select playing eleven. that's because every second person in my country does it for our national cricket team. I'm not sure how much my opinion would matter!" said Sunil Gawaskar, some ten years ago in a newpaper article.
2 years in cricket blogging, I've ... .. Read complete article |

Since the evolution of remote, TV viewership has gone up. since the arrival of multiple airlines, people have started to prefer being airborne than travelling on wheels. Mobile companies, Loan firms, automobile industry & nearly all who depend on people to run their business - has to fight for our attention.
Basic reason - we people love options!
Cricketers in India, for some reason, were singularly dependent on BCCI (Board for cricket control in India). Who gave them the responsibility to run cricket in our country is not known, but that monopoly is about to end. I wrote this article in May month with a feeling that BCCI soon be fired from them company they ... .. Read complete article |

Truth be told - I'm not much of a statistic guy. I believe past exerts no pressure on present or what will be the future. but I came across an article yesterday that inspired me to dig deep into which cricket grounds have been the worst test venues for Indian cricket.
Indian cricketers have been bad trevellers ever since cricket evolved in our nation, so Lords in London appeared obvious pick. That English ground usually hosts the first test of every tour, thus dismal performance is always expected.. but 10 losses from 14 played is actually very sad information for Indian fans. Second toughest cricket stadium for our team has been Kensington Oval in West Indies, where not ... .. Read complete article |

First objective in test match cricket, was to be at the wicket as long as you can. In one day internationals, mind-set was changed to sticking at the wicket only till you make sure your team will absorb full quota of 50 overs. After that, batters had free license to throw their bat around!!
Will third & latest format, twenty20 internationals, will demand another mind-set from batsman? what will be the bowlers trick, n how important is the fielding..
Bloggers & cricket writers around the world are pouring their predictions, including me, but how about the national selectors of respective countries? those people never talk, give no interviews, but you bet they understand cricket much deeper. 3-5 ... .. Read complete article |

Aussie n English selectors fear throwing a teenage rookie into International arena. Specially if he's a batsman. They tend to select maturity over mastery and hope the youngster will first learn at home cricket, before get tough n face the world..
Don't believe me, have a look at youngest cricketers to play ODI cricket.
Not the case with India or Pakistan cricket though. Sachin Tendulkar made debut at age of 16 years 238 days, whereas Pakistans Hasan Raza was merely 14 years n 233 days old the day he was thrown into International cricket by Pakistani selectors. Aaqib Javed n Shahid Afridi also feature in top of that list, whereas first New Zealander name (47th in list) ... .. Read complete article |

We all know cricket is a team game. I need not hammer too much into it than just one more sentence - Your win or loss depends on how you singularly co-operate with other 10 members.. somehow, after 7 years in International arena, Yuvraj Singh of India hasn't learned it as yet.
Allow me to tell how --
Story starts with this lefthanded Singh busting his knees as a result of extensive fielding drills then Coach Greg Chappell was demanding from Indian team. Time was Champions trophy 2006 in August - Mohali. A game called 'Kho Kho' was what Indian squad were indulged into.
Oouch!! Bad knee sent Yuvraj into plaster of paris, & Indian team to ... .. Read complete article |

You joke, you ask. You may also misquote them but one thing you don't do ~ is erk a politician's ego. specially if he is Lalu Prasad Yadav from Bihar.
Jagmohan Dalmiya (former BCCI president) did exactly that. In Dalmiya's time, running cricket in India was a valuable but not so famous job. mostly the rich industrialists played it, with Indian politicians concentrating else where. in 2001, Lalu Yadav - then Bihar CM for some reason, supported AC Muthiah in the BCCI election against Jagmohan Dalmiya.. Dalmiya won, n Bihar cricket association was sacked for 3 years from Ranji trophy.
Today as you read this, Lalu Yadav is no more the chief minister of Bihar, but he's the ... .. Read complete article |

Get your tracking shoes on.. Indian team is on a ride you'll never forget as fans.
I repeat - get the 'tracking shoes', not the ones you wear in office ~ coz our ride from Ireland to Scotland with England n back home to India will be pretty adventurous.. Belfast, to Glasgow to Hove to London to the Oval - time table of Indian Cricket Team is as busy as it can be, and we never know which players from this squad to Ireland England will continue to be in contention for Australian ODIs in India in September.
Topic today is coach of India team. They flew yesterday without anyone appointed to the post, but a ... .. Read complete article |

Dear Graham,
YOU crack the biggest sporting job in India ~ yet you succeed in flying back home without making any press interview. +1 points.
YOUr name was suggested by our captain of team, you'll be coaching (for at least 1 year), so healthy collaboration can be expected.. another +1 points.
YOU never played International cricket, not even national A team, but 11 series' at highest level as coach brought wins in 9 off them.. yet another +1 points for your terrific resume.
What is expected of YOU, as head coach, is no where near what others are making fuss about. India, of course, lives its cricket but we also live 99 other lives we ... .. Read complete article |

Indian team was quoted 66:1 before the competition started.. few Zimbabwe hiccups & some Australia demolition. loads of upsets including group win over windies & semi-final victory over England. and zoooom ~ Team India into cricket world cup finals.
25th June 1983. Not even 20% of India was aware of this event taking place, as Lords in England got jam-packed for the final showdown. A total of 232,081 fans strolled in, nearly equaling the combined total of past two finals (160,000 for 1975 & 132,000 for 1979).
Winston Davis had broken the record by taking 7 wickets in an ODI for the first time, 13 days before against Aussies, yet Captain Clive Lloyd dropped him for experienced Joel ... .. Read complete article |

I had written 'options against Coach Chappell' a year ago, containing nothing but loads of names.. that article never graduated to be a post on itsonlycricket.
World cup, then Bangla series n some more days hence ~ Indian cricket board is still evaluating those options. In this post, I will not name a single 'Indian coach probable' dominating cricket news these days, but my focus is on the actual NONE requirement of a fulltime coach of Team India. A triplet of Rahul Sachin Sourav, I believe, is enough to guide our team for coming 2 years.. untill we groom a youngster into next Indian captain.
Think as general. 'When you stick to a company so famous, for so ... .. Read complete article |

They call themselves 'the world wide leader in sports', and that's exactly how they plan for people in India. I remember the day I first saw a Ranji match on a new channel - ESPN, coming free to us. explained by brilliant Bhogle.
Over a decade hence, both ESPN & that time rival (now a partner) Star Sports still do good business in India. and in coming 8 years, untill World Cup 2015 ~ they will rule. Starting with upcoming India's tour of England, then twenty20 World Cup in South Africa & the tour of Australia for four test match & ODI triseries with Srilanka as third team.
Naturally, this ESPN-star combo needs a third channel. not ... .. Read complete article |

My elder brother/mentor, used to tell me about a certain Steve Jobs. when I was a struggling full time cricket blogger.
If you don't know, give me 5 mins and I'll tell you how this Apple (and Pixar studios) CEO is similar to Board for cricket control in India. BCCI in short. Story starts with both Steve & BCCI starting a company - of computer & cricket respectively. No one pays them a moment, but both fight on. With sheer passion & love for what he was doing, Steve Jobs managed to impress audiences. Money came pouring in, so he hired people to run Apple Computers with him. Company got even bigger, so board meeting room started seeing new ... .. Read complete article |

He (Subhash Chandra) said it hurts him to see such a major cricket following of India has so pathetic team at International level. Being a wealthy man that he is, his solution is - start a brand new cricket league, to be called as Indian cricket league (ICL).
2 Indian cricketers, 4 International cricketers and 8 young/future cricketers will form a squad of 14. Innitially, 6 such teams will be made to play a twenty20 tournament somewhere in India. After that - One day tournaments then more teams and so on.. Essel Group's chairman has certainly made a move that will scare the hell out of BCCI's monopoly in Indian cricket.
I generated a number of questions as ... .. Read complete article |
