India vs Pakistan, 3rd ODI Kanpur, 11/11/2007 : India won by 46 runs, lead the series 2-1 with Gwalior & Jaipur games to go..
Every who saw, would agree that Kanpur pitch was offering enough for the seamers early on (when Pakistan bowled), and the spinners later on (when India bowled). Yet, somehow, batsman dominated the 97 over day at Kanpur as arch-rivals (Gautam Gambhir & Shahid Afridi had a friendly argument) produced another close cricket match.
India prevailed with 46 runs, but Pakistan had their moments!

why umpiring is so low grade when India play at home? why not one umpire from India is in Elite Umpires panel of ICC? why.. I wonder!
But no points taken from Pakistan report card from this 2nd ODI at Mohali. Sachin Tendulkar made pakistan bowlers look silly during his stay, and same bowlers came back to restrict India from a 350 promising start into 321 struggling/lucky score. After Sachin's 99, & middle order collapse - Harbhajan singh showed good improved batting to develop crucial partnership with Zaheer Khan.

Captain Mallik took the bold decision to bat first. Shahid Afridi, for the 2nd time in a long time, looked hungry for a win. Salman Butt kept his promise to bat well against arch-rival Indians, & then we had experienced Mohammad Yousuf playing crucial innings of not out 83 runs..
Yet, Indian boys looked a superior team. In all departments! Result -

My memory goes back to that Ind v Pak Quater final match of World Cup 1996, when I first cared about what's the score of a cricket match. Ajay Jadeja had hit Waqar Younis for 18 & 22 in 48th & 50th over, but no electricity (load shedding) in Ranchi had left us known of Pakistan's reply!
My first question, after we won that match, was - how many times we've beaten Pakistan and how many times they won?

They understand our cricket, we understand their's. Both India and Pakistan play under similar conditions at home, and with little bit of old rivalry - India vs Pakistan cricket matches are the most important for Indian cricket fans. 17th feb, 1999. Shoaib Akhtar plane took off over hundered thousand Indians at Eden Gardens, Asia Cup. reason - Sachin Tendulkar was clean bowled off the first delivery he faced. Rahul Dravid was bowled the ball before!
Shoaib streched his arms as wings and ran around the field. whole stadium was stunned!
This, dear Itsonlycricket readers, can happen once again. Given Sachin's tendency to flick the ball onto leg side rather than play in the V (like he used to). And Pakistani cricket has pace, no denying that fact either. I wrote 'A story of Pak speed' a while ago, so read in case you doubt.

One-and-all got interested (including me, BCCI & corporates) that Indian cricket league (ICL) will change the way cricket is played in India. One cricket body who didn't shake - was ICC, the International cricket council.
"once India vs Pakistan cricket series starts on 6th November 2007, cricket fans will forget this rebel cricket league. we need not fix what's not broken" said ICC chief, and in between - Indian team won the twenty20 world cup.. certainly, ICL (with Kapil Dev & Kiran More) looks down & nearly out these days.

This is the match that never happened in world cup, even though ICC did its best to fix a date for it well in advance. now BCCI with PCB (in co-operation with Prince Charls) has found a rainy venue (Glasgow is the name) and new date is 3rd July.. will we finally get to enjoy an India vs Pakistan cricket match?

No match-up in Cricket played on earth can be bigger than India verses Pakistan.. only India vs Australia encounters has some chances to touch the intercity, but for that to happen ~ you need to give some added advantage to Indian side. Being honest man that I'm, I'll admit our cricket team just can't wake up every day & beat the Aussies..
Ok, then how about an India-Australia one day International series IN INDIA.. does that sound fair enough? does to me, cause stadiums will be full of tricolour & cheer can inspire anyone, including Team India boys.

Saeed Anwar had a thing against India. His records in matches against India are brilliant, even if you forget the record breaking 194 at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.
Sharjah has hosted 26 Ind v Pak ODIs (most by any other ground) whereas Sachin-Sidhu partnership of 231 for 2nd wicket remains the best ever. Some of similar records of matches between these two arch-rivals follows, so enjoy your stay & demand for more, in case..

Not sure how friendly India & Pakistan feel for each other, but each International cricket match between the two neighboring nations bring special attraction. Tuesday - 3rd July 2007 will mark similar cricket fever ~ but at a very unexpected neutral venue of Scotland.
