How do you know someone was great? talk cricket and record books suggest Tendulkar & Bradman were best in batting business ever, Muralitharan & Shane Warne hold the world record for most wickets.
Similarly - who was the best captain ever, world wide, arguably, has to be someone who won most matches for his country. Even better if his team won all matches in a row, without losing or drawing any! well, the record rests with Steve Waugh & Ricky Ponting who both won 16 tests for Australia, consecutively.
Now Ricky Ponting's team, as I write this, have been given a fourth innings target of 413 by touring Indian team (who have already lost both ... .. Read complete article |

Australia had won the first test at Melbourne, comprehensively, but more importantly, that was their 15th consecutive win in test cricket where draw & loss are two other results..
World Record stood at 16.
Now we start this special "picture article" of second test at Sydney with jubilant Rudra Pratap Singh, the Indian left arm fast bowler who found himself as pace spearhead of India after Zaheer Khan was ruled unfit minutes before this test match started. 2nd Jan 2008 it was, when another sad chapter in cricket controversies started to unfold.
Rudra Pratap had hit that perfect length right from first delivery, swinging it away from both left-handed openers (Hayden-Jaques) from home team ... .. Read complete article |

6 months before India's tour started, cricket australia had anticipated it would be biggest cricketing festival. They believed Ashes 2006, which produced $317 Millon in revenue, would be easily surpassed when Team India performs in their country!
14 days (two test matches) into the series, mind games & biased umpiring has clotted over Border-Gawaskar Trophy 2007-08 which indeed had potential to become one of the best cricket test series ever played anywhere in the ... .. Read complete article |

Out of thousand examples you'll find, on biased nature of International cricket council (ICC), following is just another one -- India's off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has been given a ban of 3 test matches by ICC match referee for calling Australia's Andrew Symonds as "a Big Monkey" on 3rd day of Sydney test match, 2-6Jan 2008.. ignoring words like "F_ck", "F_ck-off" and "B_stard" which were used by Australian players in the same match.
Note : Harbhajan was found guilty under Section 3.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which says -- players or team officials “using language or gestures that offends, insults, humiliates, intimidates, threatens, disparages or vilifies another person on the basis of that person's race, religion, ... .. Appropriate it would be if Indian cricket team boycotts current Australian tour and rests at home. But, I know that's passionate Indian fan in me speaking!
Perfect it would be if government sacks whole BCCI setup for forcing our team play so much cricket that they get only 54 overs of warm-up match before embarking on final frontier - beating australia in australia. But, that too is a too distant dream.
Then tell me, how do our team India motivate them selves's to play next two test at Perth (16th Jan 2008) and Adelaide (24th Jan 2008) when they know Aussies cheated them here at Sydney & umpires were clearly biased! I've an option ... .. Read complete article |

What started with innovative/attacking cricket from visitors, ended up giving momentum to home team. Rain played her part, took off 12 overs out of Day 4 of this Sydney test match and weather report for Day 5 suggests almost the same.
Captain Kumble employed off:on = 8:2 and 9:1 field setting to dry up runs for Hayden-Jaques who had got away with a bright opening partnership. before first rain break - around an hour mark - australia scored 17 runs from 10 overs. 17 mins were lost which also allowed batsmen to rethink their strategy. Mathew Hayden's answer - reverse sweep!
Strong man that he is, continued his love affair with Indian bowling and ... .. Read complete article |

Sachin Tendulkar, with no debates, is the best batsman Indian cricket has ever produced.. but talk about most expressive cricketer - Sourav Ganguly's name would pop up higher than most..
Start of Day 3, players take the field and Ganguly comes out running for the pitch. Mid-way, he stops - joins Tendulkar, who then runs all the way to the pitch to begin the proceedings. first ball - cheeky single! first three overs 12 runs, and India accelerating towards Australian total. Ricky Ponting had 18 more overs to bowl before the new ball - so Brad Hogg was Aussie trick. which, of course, failed.
Record ODI opening pair of India, Tendulkar-Ganguly, looked comfortable against relatively defensive ... .. Read complete article |

303 runs scored & 6 wickets fell = 85 overs = a typical day of modern day test cricket were both bowlers and batsmen had their share of say..
Brett Lee, expectedly, first displayed batting talent (59 runs) and then some fast bowling cum acting skills. He picked up one important wicket of Wasim Jaffer off a special yorker but its his animated celebrations of a wicket that amazes me! Lee never looks at umpire to appeal "how's that".. he simply runs to the keeper & starts posing for photographers!
Over night batsman, Andrew Symonds, used Steve Waugh trick and gave ample opportunities to Mitchell Johnson who hit lusty 5 fours to take Australia past ... .. Read complete article |

0/1 to 119/3 turned into 134/6 before Hogg joined Roy (Andrew Symonds). Fall of wickets turned into flood of boundaries, before Brett Lee began his endeavors..
Reason why Australia is sitting on the verge of invincible record of 16 consecutive wins, similing at rest of world's cricket, is because everytime their team is in trouble - they find a saviour! including the umpires!
Story of Sydney test's first day starts with Ricky Ponting wining the toss, opting to bat (unhesitantly) and sending Phil Jacques with clear orders - go n attack.. Ponting, a number 3 batsman, has been getting out regularly to Harbhajan Singh (7th time today), so he made sure Phil Jacqes (who's a ... .. Read complete article |

3 lost, 1 won & 4 draws = India's record at Sydney cricket ground before the 2-6 Jan 2008 test match, which starts today.
Can India improve? will we see the glimpse of promise Team India made to beat Australia in Australia on this tour? well, Sydney brings'em a second chance & some happy memories (India scored 705/5d & 211/2d last time, to Australia's 474 & 357 with 4 wickets remaining.. match draw).
Sydney cricket ground (SCG) pitch is famous as spinners' pitch (when compared to other grounds downunder) but India's 2008 tour of Australia, so far, hasn't installed enough confidence into their batting stalwarts that we can be guaranteed of a repeat performance.. neither ... .. For starters, we won't have any "twisted finger" aka Billy Bowden umpiring in India vs Australia 2nd test match at Sydney, who didn't please no one while officiating in first test. neither the pitch at SCG is expected to be as slow as it was for Melbourne test..
but for main course, Indian team have to find some practical positives from the huge defeat they suffered 3 days ago. Following article comes in association with 'Praveen Kaur' from Punjab in India, who sent itsonlycricket the longest mail we've ever received. We, of course, have to edit what she says, but her list of positives are worth a mention!
Harbhajan's bowling Punjabi girl is ... .. Read complete article |
