Almost 7 years ago, March 2001 it was when Indian beat Australia at Kolkata (after following on) to stop their winning streak of 16 matches.. That was Steve Waugh's team. Now Ricky Ponting's boys, won equaled the same invincible record, are now beaten at Perth.
Chasing target of 413, Australia were bowled out for 340 runs in 87 overs.
Prior to this loss at Perth, Australia played 24 tests at home - won 22 & drew 2. Last time they lost at home was at Adelaide, beaten by same Indian team. and guess what - next, last & 4th test match of current Border Gawaskar trophy 2007-08 will again be played at Adeialde Oval from ... .. To rewrite record of Invincibility (17th win), Australia now must also rewrite the record of chasing big 4th inn targets of a test match. record stands at 418 by Windies, then 406 by India.
Australia need 413 here at Perth.
Day 3 started with 8 consecutive overs from Brett Lee - almost 1+1/2 hours spell broken into two drinks breaks - and took the wickets of Dravid (3) and Tendulkar (13). Stuart Clark had his tail up as captain Ponting brought him on before Mitchell Johnson - having dismissed Jaffer (caught at gully) previous evening, Clark clean bowled Virendra Sehwag who was scoring freely. Sourav Ganguly, looking lost, edged to Adam Gilchrist behind the ... .. Read complete article |

This is no time to relax. Experience of Indian boys & character of younger lot has just began to surprise home team (Australia) who are on the verge of rewriting history - 17 test match wins in a row!
It's time to dominate. By finishing Australian first innings exactly in 50 overs, and compiling a lead of 170 runs with 9 wickets in hand - Indian team has done well on just another day in a 5 day game. They're yet to register any outright win or smile/pose with a trophy on current Australian trip 2008.. something they're very capable of!
4 wickets fell for 3 runs = end of India's first Innings. 330 ... .. Read complete article |

Pitch at Perth cricket ground attracted much attention as we came close to this India vs australia 3rd test match, but Indian think tank didn't read too much into it & made the aggressive decision of batting first after winning the toss.. a move which should serve'em well if this match goes into 4-5th day!
Out comes Virendra Sehwag whose stroke-play from 2nd delivery he faced helped Wasim Jaffer take his time & settle down. For the first time in this test series, Indians openers put on a half century stand and although their number 3 & 4 batsmen started their innings before the lunch interval -- Indian ship had left the shores & build some momentum ... .. Chama sobhati us bhoojang ko, jiske pas garal ho! Usko kya jo dentheen vishrahit vinit saral ho!!
That's a hindi poem I read in school. I hope most readers of itsonlycricket would understand it - but if you don't : it means forgiveness belongs to whom who has the power to destroy, not to those who are teethless poisonless soft creature.
The news : Indian cricket team has withdrawn their case over Brad Hogg as third test match at Perth starts in two days time (16th January).
Question : What about the series? are we going to win it?? of course not. can we at least draw it? now that'll mean India (the ... .. Read complete article |

WACA stands for Western Australia cricket association, and the ground (commonly termed as Perth) has a pitch known to add extra jump to every delivery that kisses it. Cricketers might still have to play good cricket to win a match here (bat first or second hardly matters), but arguably the fastest pitch in the world demands more application from batsmen than anywhere else!
They say its in the clay! In south of Western Australia - there's a place called Waroona from where curator Sam Sutherland imported the clay in a bid to regive the carry bowlers used to get at Waca pitch in seventies and nineties. This happened in March last year after Aus v Eng Ashes test ... .. Read complete article |

Two imported first class players - Edward Cowan & Chris Rogers - both openers and both left handers. sadly, they both were negotiators with bat rather than a dasher..
Or may be we didn't see that aspect of'em before they got out. Ishant Sharma broke that slow opening partnership of 41, then removed Johathan Dean 3 balls later - all in the same first over he bowled since coming on first change to Irfan Pathan and Pankaj Singh.
Captain Mark Higgs edged one Ishant's short pitched delivery to wicket-keeper (Karthik, not Dhoni) and Indians looked like making inroad into home team. Walks in John Rogers - 21 year old Canberra kid who was prepared to ... .. Read complete article |

Manuka Oval is not a small place to play cricket. In fact, heavy outfield made it even tougher for Indians batsmen to do what their first nature says - 'sit back and hit fours'.. Day 1 of this 3 day tour match against ACT XI made'em run for their runs!
Virendra Sehwag looked as compact as he has ever been - playing with straight bat & waiting! giving some respect to the bowler who were over cloud number 9 as they bowled to famous batting line-up in the world. Sehwag, when lost patience, got lose on deliveries wide outside off-stump - looking to hit sixes over third man, but didn't connect a single one. Australian Territory captain (Mark ... ..
