A country of only 20 Million people, Sri Lankan cricket is flourishing ever since they won the 1996 World Cup and, from that same 96 WC onwards, Lankans have started to challenge Indians after losing consistently previously.
Today, we look at important records in India vs Sri Lanka one day internationals and you'll find more of Lankan records are made in recent times..
Highest score = 189 by Sanath Jaysuriya (161b, 21x4, 4x6) at Sharjah, 29 Oct 2000. India's best individual score vs Srilanka is by MS Dhoni = 183* from 145 balls with 15 fours and 10 sixes at Jaipur.

Those short arm jab pull shots, that superstitious touching of pads again & again and never a word said to bowler but always let the bat do the talking, Sanath Jayasuriya is one of the most destructive batsmen to have played one day cricket. and probably the one who revolutionised opening batting in powerplays.
Destruction is what Jayasuriya did on 29 October 2000, in the final match of Coca Cola Triseries in Sharjah 2000. Sri Lanka scored only 299 that day, but 189 came from Jayasuriya's willow alone, punchuated with 21 fours and 4 sixes, from 161 balls. (50 in 53 balls, 100 in 118 balls, 150 in 143 balls). Srilanka won the game by 245 runs.

Known for their flymboyant self, Indian batting is known to score big runs once they get going. On 26 May in a World cup 1999 match, they were galopping..
Sadgopan Ramesh, a left handed opener who played some tests & ODIs for India, was out to Chaminda Vaas in the first first over of the match after Lankans elected to field. Rahul Dravid joined Sourav Ganguly and then began the one way traffic. 318 runs second wicket, Ganguly and Dravid still rank 2nd in all time highest partnerships in ODI cricket.

Saurav Ganguly & Rahul Dravid, two of best modern day batters produced by India, had the ability to punish opposition once they got going. on 26 May 1999, Sri Lankan bowling came under heavy punishment as this right-left hand combination put on 318 runs for 2nd wicket, which is still the highest partnership in India vs Sri Lanka one day matches.

Cricket is as much as team game, no doubt, but couple of individual performances can win the game..
29 October 2000, Chaminda Vaas ate up 5 Indian wickets for only 14 runs from 9.3 overs under lights to finish them to the lowest total in India vs Sri Lanka one day internationals = 54 runs. Only 1 batsman, Robin Singh (11), went past double figure mark in that horrible innings as Indians were defeated by mamoth 245 runs in that Coca cola cup final match, also registering the biggest win in Ind v SL ODIs.

Talk about lone rangers, Sanath Jayasuriya single handly won that October 2000 Coca Cola cup triseries in Sharjah for Sri Lanka, scoring career best 189 runs as rest of other Lankan batters struggled throughout the innings.
Set exactly 300 runs to chase, Indians slipped to their lowest total ever, 54, as Chaminda Vaas swung the ball both ways under lights. It was the final match, and Sri Lanka won by mamoth 245 runs which is still the biggest win margin in India vs Sri Lanka one day internationals.
