What does these phenomenal records tell us? That Srilanka is not a happy result oriented test cricket venue. Srilankan Pitches are famous to turn flat & become nightmare for bowlers!
May be itsonlycricket.com should publish an article on which countries have most most draws in test match cricket. but moving on - following are some useful informations cricket fans might need on upcoming India-Srilanka 2008 series where 3 test series will be followed by a 5 one day international series = The Idea Cup!

Speaking as an Indian fan, the ugliest record Srilankans have over us is their innings total of 952/5 which is highest by far by any country in test cricket! I wonder it'll ever wash off..
Come end of July 2008, India will be starting another bilateral tour of Srilanka, so its a good time to review which most important records still stand between the two countries. so, here we go :>
Total Tests = 26. India = 10, Sri lanka = 3, Draws = 13.
Total Series = 10. India = 5, Sri lanka = 2, Draws = 3.
Total ODIs = 101. India = 52, Sri lanka = 39, NR = 10.

There hasn't been many time periods when Indian cricket had looked so strong on paper (& on field) as they do now, in 2007-08 season. They narrowly missed the test series in Australia some 3 months ago and expectations are high for them to win the three test match "Idea Cup" against Srilanka in Srilanka from 23rd July 2008.
4 previous Indian cricket squads to Srilanka had fetched only 1 test match win on lankan soil from 12 tests.

Last time India were in Srilanka - August 2001 - the 3 test match series proved to be an intriguing contest where Lankans demolished India with 10 wickets victory but Visitors came back with 7 wickets victory in second test match, chasing target of 264. The decider test match at SSC Colombo again turned into one-sided battle as Lankans won it by an innings and 77 runs.
Prior to this 2008 tour, only other test win for India came in their 2nd tour to the lankan island, back in 1993.. interestingly, both of other two tests of that series were drawns and thus - that was also a test series victory for India on Srilanka soil - their ... .. Read complete article |
