16 test series between India and New Zealand, 8 to India and 4 for New Zealand (Draw = 4). figures might seem Indian biased but they failed to beat New Zealand in New Zealand for 41 long years. in 6 tours since they won their first ever trip to kiwiland in March of year 1968.
Jinx broken : 7 March 2009 : India wins series 1-0.
Visitors were clearly the better team among the two in this 2009 National Bank Test Series, winning first test at Hamilton convincingly, then came back from behind to draw second test at Napier and then dominated this 3rd test match at Wellington where rain avoided them from taking ... .. When was the last time Indian team bowled out twice in a test match? back in August 2008, 9 tests ago.
Going into this second test match at Napier, home team New Zealand, trailing 1-nil in the series, did everything right from the begining from winning the toss, posting mamoth 619/9 declared in first innings, eating up Indian first batting innings for less than half of their total and without wasting a minute ~ enforced follow-on in a bid to get remaining 10 sticks mendatory to win a test match.
But as we noted, Indians have not lost 20 wickets in a test match since August of 2009 at Colombo against Srilanka, which was also the ... .. Read complete article |

Numbers can be misleading when I tell you it took India over 33 years to win a test match in New Zealand, but a fact is fact. Wining at Eden Park in Auckland on January 28, 1976, on next 14 tests spanning over 5 tours, previous Indian cricket teams performed miserably in kiwiland.. lost = 6, draw = 7 and 1 game abandoned.
Come 21 March 2009, India registered their rare win at Hamilton yesterday, and interestingly, they won it on 4th day itself after dominating right from the start.
New Zealand made comeback of sorts with centuries by captain Daniel Vettori and Jesse Ryder after Indian new ball bowlers reduced home team's first innings to ... .. Read complete article |

Eden Park in Auckland roared like home away from home today for Indian cricket team.. let alone the fours & sixes, even singles, simple fielding drills & post match speeches were cheered aloud by 21,285 spectators.
Almost 80% Indian supporters at a New Zealand venue, home team captain Daniel Vettori had to confess how biased crowed were today, hardly anyone wanting them to win this dead rubber match.
But, fan support wasn't going to complete clean sweep for visitors who lead 3-0 coming into this fifth onedayer. Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni bluntly opted to bat first under cloudy conditions and, to his surprise, pitch turned out to be much more helpful for new ball ... .. Read complete article |

Match fixing allegations and then ban ended one of most prolific batting careers for India in mid-1980s and 1990s. Mohammad 'wristy' Azharuddin, started his career with 3 back to back test match centuries, once smashed New Zealand bowling all around Baroda cricket ground to score then fastest century by an Indian, off 62 balls.
Virendra Sehwag, 20 years and 4 months later, today = 11 March 2009, broke that record with his 60 ball hundred at Seddon Park in Hamilton. Same team, New Zealand, were at receiving end as Sehwag, with his opening partner Gautam Gambhir, put up 201 unbeaten partnership to win the game for visitors.
Virendra Sehwag's 100 off 60 balls is now the ... .. Read complete article |

When square boundaries are just 60 yards, third man & mid-wicket only 54 yards - you know Indian batsmen can make a mediocre bowling attack look silly. even before this 3rd India vs New Zealand one day international started at AMI stadium in Christchurch, home team plans were to bowl at stumps and force wristy Indian batters to play straight where the boundaries actually were 80 yards far.
Kiwi bowlers failed in plan, bowled it short & wide to which Indians replied with score of 392 = 10th highest ODI total! (3rd ODI Scorecard).
Another big record was broken today = most sixes in a 50 over match = 31, beating Australia-Southafrica Greatest ODI ... .. Read complete article |

Every time there's a rain abandoned game, Colonial cricket stadium in Australia comes to mind which is a completely indoor (with a covering roof), making itself waterproof!
No such roof at Westpac trust stadium in Wellington where India and New Zealand began second one day international in highly competitive manner today. Indian openers Virendra Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar mixed aggression with caution to perfection and took India to 76 runs off first 12 over before being separated. in between, Ian O'Brien bowled some unplayable deliveries, touching speed of higher 140kmph regularly.
79 yards straight but only 65 yards square boundaries, Sehwag played his un-natural pull shot to good effect (specially against Kyle Mills) while Tendulkar ... .. Read complete article |

Fact : 48 years since India won their only test series in New Zealand.
Fact : India have never won an ODI series in New Zealand.
Fact : Current India's tour of New Zealand 2009 started with absolutely no warm-up game for the sub-continent team whose batsmen have always failed under windy-swinging conditions in kiwiland.
But, Indian cricket team of day is no pushovers.. At start of the series, Captain Dhoni said his team will not crib over lack of practice, and consider twin T20 games as warm-up before the big games.
And so they did. Losing first T20 at Christchurch and 2nd T20 at Wellington, Indian captain Dhoni elected to bat ... .. Read complete article |

Building the list of highest scorers in Twenty20 cricket yesterday, I noticed no New Zealand batsman has ever gone past 70 runs, individually.
Well, 24 hours later, Brendon McCullum came agonising close to take his name to that list, remained unbeaten on 69. Brendon didn't enter seventies but he won the match for his country alright. his 69 not out, shepherded Kiwi batting against some spirited bowling performance from Indians whose batters fail again to set a mediocre target of 150 from 20 overs for the home team. (2nd T20 full scorecard).
A much bigger ground than what we had for the 1st Twenty20, Westpac stadium in Wellington saw good battle between bat & ... .. Read complete article |

Not far are the days when ICC will have to rethink their minimum boundary length rule, cause world cricket is already into a phase where hitting sixes is safer than finding fours.
Record : 24 sixes hit in today T20 match between India & New Zealand (Full Scorecard). India and Australia held the previous record of most 6s in a 20 over match (20) when they played the semi-final match in T20 World Cup 2007 at Durban.
No more than 60 yards on either sides, AMI Stadium in Christchurch appeared even smaller today as Virendra Sehwag hit 6,6,6 of his first 3 balls. Sehwag's 10 ball 26, punctuated with 4 easy sixes, lifted India upto ... .. Read complete article |

Twenty20 Internationals at 11.30am, One day Internationals starting at 6.30am and Test Match from 3.30am.. meaning ~ when cricket starts in New Zealand, most of Indian fans are sound asleep.
"But an India vs New Zealand in New Zealand live cricket match will bring fans out of sleep and next to television sets", hoped Sony TV when the brought telecast rights for New Zealand cricket couple of years ago, starting with England tour of New Zealand which no Indian watched. West Indies tour of New Zealand followed and Sony TV switched to only highlights mode instead of showing that cricket series live to baised Indian cricket viewers who rarely watch other two teams playing!

Last time India toured New Zealand, 4 innings of 2 test match series produced only 161, 121, 94 & 154 for the visitors.. needless to say Indians had a torrid time in the test series.. ODI series wasn't better either where India lost to New Zealand 5-2 in 7 games.
Come February 25, 2009, Indian cricket team starts a new New Zealand tour and will be hoping for an improved performance in Trans-Tasman country.
Dhawal Kulkarni, the Mumbai medium pacer, has been selected for the first time ti represent his country after a splendid performance in domestic cricket so far.. from 13 first class games, Kulkarni has picked 49 wickets at 22.02 runs a piece. Read complete article |

New Zealand enters new year some 4+1/2 hours before India, and around 11 hours before England and approximately 27 hours before Los Angeles in USA.
Reason I bring that up, is because when an India vs New Zealand cricket match starts in New Zealand, depending upon it is a Day or Day/Night match, or a Twenty20 International or a boring test match day, play starts at contrastingly different time zones around the world.
In following, we've listed start timings of all matches on India's tour of New Zealand 2009 this February, March & April and also bring you a trick to find your timings no matter in which part of the world you ... .. Read complete article |

Last time India toured New Zealand, they lost both the Test match at Wellington (by 10 wickets) & a low scoring thriller at Hamilton where Indians were bowled out for 99 in first innings, fought back to take 5 run lead miraculously, only to be dismissed for merely 154 in second innings.. kiwis chased down target of 160 with 4 wickets remaining, winning 2 test match series 2-0.
7 ODI series followed in that India's tour of New Zealand, December 2002 - January 2003, which India lost 5-2, winning 5th ODI by 2 wickets and 6th ODI by 1 wicket!
Needless to say, it was a forgettable tour of New Zealand for Indian cricket fans.

Today, 7 February 2009, when India becomes 2nd best one day cricket team in world rankings, I'm repeatedly asked about India's chances of becoming number 1. Today, an Indian cricket fan is confident of their team, and seek new challenges..
18 days from today, India's tour of New Zealand 2009 starts. Previously, Indian record in New Zealand reads 24 ODIs played - 16 lost (only 7 won). 18 tests played, 7 lost (only 4 won). India vs New Zealand one day internationals hasn't been as close as contests between other two countries for the simple reason = New Zealand bowlers love to swing, something that Indian batsman don't like much. on other hand, Indian bowlers like to spin against which New Zealand batsman struggle.
Same can't be said about overall 50 over games played between the two contrastingly different cricket teams. out of 75 India vs New Zealand one day internationals (as of February 2009), 36 wins for India & 35 wins for New Zealand with 4 no results.

It's not much fun waking up at 3 am in the morning and watch a cricket test match.. or is it? Well, I here at Itsonlycricket.com love it, but can't say the same for most of cricket fans who have to work in the morning.
An India vs New Zealand test series, in New Zealand, brings about similar scenario when the test matches and Day one day internationals start at 3.30 am India timing. Probably cause of its awkward start time, India have visited New Zealand only 7 times in their 6 decades of cricketing hall of fame..
Fact : International cricket council (ICC) makes it mandatory for every test playing country to tour another inside ... .. Read complete article |
