Having come agonising close to unpredictable win in first test at Cardiff, Australia went on to lose 2nd test at Lords on this 2009 tour of England, going 1-0 behind with 3 more tests to go.
10 day's break came at the right time for them, finishing up a good victory over Northamptonshire county.
Shane Watson, pushing for opening spot as Philip Hughes hadn't look confortable against English bouncers in previous two tests, scored good 84 on day one after Michael Hussey, acting captain, elected to bat first. Watson's aggressive 84 off just 96 balls displayed good solidarity in Queensland allrounder who hadn't been bowling lately.

When Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne retired, Brett Lee was tipped to lead Australian bowling in test and one day cricket. Lee did his best against easy opposition New Zealand but struggled big time on Indian tour and at home against South Africans.
Soon, he found himself back to gym and on injury table. Something was bothering him and Cricket Australia decided to rest him long enough that his desire for International cricket starts burning again.

Two big names in today's preview are Troy Cooley and John Buchanan. One is bowling coach while other head cricket coach.. and the interesting fact is, both were on opposite sides in 2005 Ashes test series and now have reversed the roles.
Troy Cooley was said to be the reason behind teaching England bowlers the art of reverse swing which helped them win back Ashes urn after 19 years. John Buchanan, on other hand, is 3 times World cup winning for Australian coach but now has taken up a short term consultancy job with England team, ahead of this 2009 Ashes series.
