England’s captain Alastair Cook spoke at a press conference after the second ODI against the West Indies and was quoted saying he was pleased with the way his team performed at the Oval following the tragic death of fellow English cricketer Tom Maynard.
“It's been a tough 36 hours for us as a team,” Cook said.
“It was obviously incredibly sad news and I think quite a few boys were emotional, especially today at the minute's silence. On the cricket front, the way we handled it and came out to set the tone was how we went from there.
“It has been difficult; something like this hits us hard. We have all played with ... .. Read complete article |

Warwickshire’s all-rounder Chris Woakes has been added to England’s ODI squad as a possible replacement for bowler Jade Dernbach for the remainder of the series against the West Indies..
This step was taken after news of cricketer Tom Maynard’s death reached the team. Maynard had been hit by a train in London in the early hours of the day and died at the scene.
Dernbach was said to be very close to his Surrey team-mate Maynard and will most likely be given the series off on compassionate grounds.

The West Indies’ problems have not stopped yet. A string of injuries with started with Kemar Roach earlier this month in the test series against England, hasn’t ceased as the latest victim Darren Bravo was ruled out and sent home. The Windies however, have chosen not to call for a replacement.
In the massive 114 run defeat they suffered in the first ODI against England, it was clear that Bravo was struggling even as he walked up to the crease. The new updated ICC regulations don’t allow a runner, and Bravo could barely run after he managed to score 8 runs at the end of the match.

Windies tour of England began slowly but has gathered momentum gradually. Hosts pummeled the visitors in the first two tests, there was some controversy when both attacking bowlers from home team were rested in for the 3rd test, the rejuvenation of the West Indies to fight for pride, an unlikely/brilliant partnership, Chanderpaul’s suspected injury and Narine not meeting the huge expectations that forced the West Indies selectors to hurry him for the third test, and at the end of it all, were the rains. But all that is over. It’s time now for an ODI series showdown, which is sure to bring in a lot of fans and viewers from either side.
To start off, next two weeks ... .. Read complete article |

With Kevin Pietersen out of the One-Day-International scenario completely, England coach Andy Flower has recalled Ian Bell for the 3-ODI series against the West Indies, which starts on the 16th of this month.
The 30-year-old Warwickshire batsman will make a return to the 50-over format of the game more than four months after his previous ODI. He was dropped from the ODI squad before England faced Pakistan in Febuary. They won that series 4-0.
After Pietersen’s sudden exit from short-format games last week, coach Andy Flower confirmed Bell as his replacement and as the person to fill up his vacant top order spot.
With 108 ODI appearances, an average of just above 34, a ... .. Read complete article |

With the test series behind them, England have made a few changes in their team for the 3 ODIs starting on the 16th. One major change is the recalling of Ian Bell into the ODI eleven.
After Kevin Pietersen retired from ODIs and in turn had to retire from T20s as well, England were looking for a good replacemet, and who better than the 30-year-old Bell, who had 108 ODI appearances to his name with an average of 34 and a strike rate of 73? Coach Andy Flower spoke about his choice to an English website and was quoted saying, “The World Cup in Australia was definitely on our mind. We had to weigh up whether to get ... .. Finally the wait is over. Fans waiting to see Chris Gayle – presently the world’s most popular cricketing mercenary – back in action, will finally breathe easy. The ‘Calypso King’ appears to have buried the hatchet as far as his differences with the West Indies Cricket Board go and is back in the reckoning to do what he does best – ‘Hammer ‘em outta the park.’ Several attempts had been made in the past from both sides, but egos, personal differences and issues related to alleged improper handling kept creating roadblocks for Gayle to represent the West Indies at the highest level.
Chris Gayle and the WICB have apparently called truce over their fifteen month stand-off which saw ... .. Read complete article |
