Why are runners allowed in one day cricket?

Three batsman at the crease is a rare sight on a cricket field. It happens only when a batsman is physically injured and can't run for his own self.

Cricket rules allows one player from the team to run for the injured batsman, but looking at modern day cricket - I see teams using this little flaw in ICC ruling to their advantage.

Herschelle Gibbs of South Africa twice had a runner (in 434 Johannesburg match vs Australia & T20 opening match against windies) where right handed batsman displayed breath-taking batsmanship, scored 175 & 90* respectively, and won the match for his country. Same thing happened when Saeed Anwar of Pakistan scored the highest One ... .. Read complete article

Art of sending 'home crowd' out of the game

He,who hesitates ~ loses the initiative. and in a game of two - initiative counts, if not decide.

Its a tough topic to handle, but I'll do my best. lets starts with an example.. you indulge into a conversation (with the person sitting next to you, at any alien location), which becomes a debate. then fight of ego, then a Punch!!

There's tons of possibility that people around will stop you two from getting anymore physical. It happens all the time. but the one of you who swung first punch ~ went off with the advantage. He'll always feel proud of himself, whereas other one will disgrace the moment.

Equal are cricket matches, or in any game ... .. Read complete article

Thank your handful fans, when on overseas tour

My memory goes back to October 2004 when Australian team came to India, calling the tour as 'final frontier'. They had won everywhere, beaten one n all, but somehow Team India had escaped the Aussie blitz in 2001 through Kolkatta win (Dravid-Laxman partnership) after following on..

Come October 2004, Aussies had 4 test match Border Gawaskar series to try n stamp their authority once again. First move ~ captain Ricky Ponting (who has terrible record against spin bowling) didn't arrive in India. Adam Gilchrist captained the side, with soft hand Michael Clarke & Demien Martyn taking batting responsibilities.

First test match at Bangalore - Aussies won. Thrilled with joy, Adam Gilchrist ran all the way to one corner ... .. Read complete article

A Steve Waugh trick ~ whole cricket world is using

Everybody knows Steve Waugh first made a name for himself when he struck 200 off 425 balls after batting 555 mins against mighty West Indies at Sabina Park (Jamaica) in that cricket defining 1994 series. if you didn't, now you do. I assure you its true. before that, the other Waugh twin (Mark) was lot more famous..

While he played, Steve had a 'very different' approach of batting with tailenders. he'll take a single off the very first ball of an over, to allow opposition a go at other lesser capable batsman. He did that in above mentioned Caribbean test as well, as he did in a Kolkatta test against India (which Aussies lost after forcing follow-on). Steve believed ... .. Read complete article

The art of irritating your opposition

Tie those shoes that bit longer, let your opponent come n wait for toss first and then wait some more..

The Idea is ~ to frustrate the man in against, to a point that his concentration turns to irritation. He might know you very well off the pitch, but if onfield funny faces, tricky signals or something else can force him think other than the game in hand - that's advantage YOU.

First example comes to mind, is Rafael Nadal. Though he has started to hurry up lately - pulling his underwear, fixing shocks & coming last for toss continues. John Mcenroe was another character, whereas listening to Shane Warne as he bowled was tremendous pleasure. "ball goes ... .. Read complete article

Cricket - how much a game of toss

I never understood how few of my friends knew the cards I had, in a compelling game called 29 we still play, whenever meet. Everytime they'll deal the cards - they know where the big pointers went, n what we've as opposition.

The similarity with cricket is, one captain gets to hold the coin - push it in air as much as he wants - at any rotation n angle, whereas other captain gets to pridict one of two possibilities. 2nd one has only 1 off 2 or 50% mathematical chance, but the one who deals (I mean tosses) can certainly do more than that.. agree??

Let it be. The fact is - cricket is also a game ... .. Read complete article
