What are top two electronic goods Indian people buy? I read long time ago that it's a FAN, then a TELEVISION.
India loves cricket too. now everytime you buy a TV, or in case you relocate to a new house - you've to decide which direct to home (DTH) service provider to subscribe to, or go for local cable tv connection.
As I write this - only two DTH options you have - Dish TV & Tata Sky. options might increase in future as more & more companies merge Internet with cable tv with phone connections in one DTH service. but as of now - which service is best as far as watching cricket (getting ... .. Consider an India vs Australia test match being played at Melbourne (Australia).. when will each day's play start according to Indian timing (IST)? What will be the start time of a Day-Night oneday international to be played in South Africa, according to USA?
Confusing it may sound, but it's pretty easy to calculate the start timing of any cricket match to be played in any country, according to anywhere in the world you might be! indulge into the following..
First, we need to understand the 3 types of International cricket matches : 1st = test match & day oneday Internationals (both start appx. at same time). 2nd = Day-Night oneday Internationals and 3rd = Twenty20 International. Read complete article |

On Christmas day, 25th December, people visit church and leave money & gifts for the poor in small boxes placed their by the priest, formally known as Christmas Box.
Also, in old days ~ servants used to work at their masters place on Christmas night. Thus, the following day, 26th December, they were given day off. Servants would bring small boxes in which their masters kept coins and food.. as bonus!
Today - that Christmas bonus hasn't changed, neither has the public holiday the next day of Christmas. Employees might not bring those Boxes to their employers anymore but to mark the days gone by, since 1980, Cricket Australia hosts a cricket test match at Melbourne ... .. Read complete article |

There is no Ashes series in 2008. neither there is a World Cup or India vs Pakistan test series. Giving a quick glance to International cricket schedule for year 2008 below, I see the biggest test series happening between Australia & West Indies, in April-May. We also have Aussies coming to India, then a ICC Champions trophy.. but in short - fixtures time table made by ICC for 2008 isn't as attractive as it could have been..
Most of the teams will play at home, or tour a country for a bilateral cricket series of some test matches & ODI tours. International cricket council also didn't plot too many tri-series (except one in Bangladesh) then the traditional Commonwealth Bank ... .. Read complete article |

2 years of cricket writing has given me plenty of online resources to find the latest news on Indian cricket, Pakistan cricket, England cricket & so forth. Today I'll share a few of them with you. Not that my own Itsonlycricket.com don't get you the hot cricket news from all International teams, but its a cricket blog ~ not a news site. I know I escape some of them.
Solving this problem straight for my cricket blog readers, I'll analyze which web sites target which kind of news on over favorite sport, starting with ever so reliable Google. many of you won't know, but this 6 letter search engine tracks all the cricket news happening around the world, and ... .. My idea for this article was to offer information on which cricket bats to buy & what are their specialties. I also wanted to elaborate the several new bats cricket stores will be selling in coming months, but then ~ I realized how little I myself know about the latest available bats for sport called cricket..
Its been long since I started to write about cricket, but longer has been my days when I played the game. So, changing the plans from telling you which bats to buy, I've compiled an interesting story on which cricket bats (I mean of which manufacturing company) are used by batsman of top International teams like England, India, Australia, Pakistan, South ... .. If you ever thought about turning a cricket writer, or simply any kind of blogger ~ note the following -- You got to love what you write about. Knowing more about that topic has to be your first goal, then to tell all to your readers..

Reason I blurted above out, is because I wrote about HotSpot technology recently, & today I present you 'Hawk eye'. They made stump Cam (Stump camera) in the early eighties. then cricket coverage saw Snikometer in nineties with Speed Gun in 1999. Channel 9 network were not satisfied, so they made Hawkeye in 2002.
No one said Nine Network will sleep now, & neither they did. Come Ashes 2006, Channel 9 (must in Australia, famous worldwide TV network) came up with yet another new technology called "Hot Spot". The idea is to have two infra-red cameras static above the the field of cricket arena & contineously record the play. One edge or snick, bat-pad appeal is followed by feeding that Infra red camera recording into Computers which in turn show the negative image of the incident just happened. What ... .. I truly expect Itsonlycricket readers to know their cricket (obvious rules & regulations) but my cricket blog also require to impress the newer ones. doing so, I'll explain what is the number of fielders inside (outside) circle rule in One day cricket.. better known as Cricket Powerplay rule. Start with first 10 overs of every ODI innings.. all (but two) fielders inside the 30 yard circle. Then, the fielding captain has to opt for two slots of 5 overs each (PP1 & PP2), when he'll again call all (but two) fielders inside that same 30 yard circle, usually marked with white dotts or stripe as shown in the picture. Once taken (whether ... .. Read complete article |

Mohammad Yousuf was in thrilling form and broke the record for most runs in a calender year, whereas Muthiah Muralitharan bowled the second most expensive spell in One day cricket.. Indian team won a test series in West Indies after 35 years, whereas Australians regained their Ashes urn. Pakistan dominated the newspapers with numerous controversies, whereas New Zealand played the least amount of cricket and rarely anyone noticed them.. Well yes, I am talking about the year of 2006, where 46 test and 160 ODI's were played.. including that forfeited match at The Oval. Australian won the Champions trophy for the first time this ... ..
