South African target to win this Perth test match is 414, out of which, they have already made 227, losing only 3 wickets thanks to superb captains century by Graeme Smith (108). Starting the day with 7 wickets already on his name - Mitchell Johnson, had he taken remaining 2 wickets in South African first innings, would have broken the record for best bowling figures by an Australia bowler.
Record for best bowling by an Aussie bowler belongs to Aurther Mailey (leg spinner) for his 9 wickets for 121 runs against England at Melbourne way back in February 1921. 8 wickets in an innings has been taken by 15 bowlers from downunder and Mitchell Johnson's fugures of 24-4-61-8 takes him to 6th position.
That wasn't to be. Johnson removed Dale Steyn early on Day 3 but Mkhaya Ntini provided some support to Mark Boucher who refused several singles ... .. Read complete article |

Australia ain't no extraordinary team.. they're just a bunch of selected cricketers who push the limits within limits and strive for advantage wherever possible.
Today, starting brand new series vs South Africa, Australian openers - Mathew Hayden & Simon Katich were out on the field good 5 minutes before South African fielders made appearance. Usually, openers take an over or two to settle down but Mathew Hayden straight drove Makhaya Ntini's first over twice.. both risky but lucklily, both fetched fours.
Hayden's luck ran out off the first ball Ntini bowled around the wicket, and Captain Ricky Ponting's miserable form continued as he edged very next ball of the match to second slip.. nicely taken ... .. Read complete article |

When was the last time South Africa played a test match at Perth? exactly 3 years ago from today, from 16 December 2005.
Same was their captain (Graeme Smith) and he did similar talks before the series, promising to compete with Australia in their own backyard.. prasing how balanced & hungry squad he had then.
Result : Smith's men drew 1st test match at perth, batting out last day skillfully, only to lose the series 2-0.
3 years hence, from same day, at same venue - Proteas kickoff their 2008-09 tour tomorrow, with similar promise to topple World No. 1 team in front of their own crowd. For sure, opportunity is there for taking, ... .. Read complete article |
