It's no secret that when cricket is on - India is playing - nothing else is bigger for Indians.
Now, the businessmen involved in telecast of a cricket match know this fact and they constantly search for loopholes in guidelines set by Indian government which forces broadcasters to share live feeds with DD national - the free to air channel of India.
Government guidelines state that all the cricket matches involving India (of national interest) must be shown on DD1 as well, irrespective of who own the telecast rights. Clause is - which matches are of national interest and which are not? In October 2007 - Indian government modified the rules by saying that all ... .. Read complete article |

Only the 5th defeat for Ricky Ponting as captain, but a heavy one. 320 runs victory margin is the biggest win for India against any country (scorecard).
Note : Test match victory margins are also by wickets & innings, which are, obviously, excluded.
'Toss' is ultra important in cricket, so the moment MS Dhoni (stand in captain for injured Anil Kumble) won the coin flip - India were ahead in this second test match at Mohali, October 2008. Good opening partnership followed by steady century by old pro - Sourav Ganguly - India built a healthy total (469).
Since then, Australia were chasing the game & ended up far behind.

Ultra-experienced batting of India were given a tentative target of 299 from 83 overs on a 5th day pitch by the visiting Australian team but their bowlers disappointed as they dismissed only 4 batsmen. Earlier, after giving away a moderate lead of 70 runs on first innings - Indian bowlers also failed to make inroads into Aussie second innings batting ... .. Read complete article |

My memory goes back to 1998 when second Border-Gawaskar test match which was played at Chennai - and Australians had fielded Gavin Roberson - an off-spinner who could hardly spin the ball.
Over a decade later - as the 2008 Ind v Aus test series (in India) is about to kick-off, Australia still haven't found a reliable twicker for sub-continent conditions. Spin Wizard 'Shane Warne' picked up only 34 wickets from 459.1 overs he bowled on Indian pitches (tests played = 9), so that too is no record to write home about. Since his retirement - Aussie selectors had looked upon Stuart McGill, Jason Krejza, Bryce McGain to fill the boots and upon Beau Casson, Nathan Hauritz, ... .. Read complete article |
