Bresnan happy to make a contribution to England's success.

Tim Bresnan has emerged as England’s lucky mascot of sorts. After England’s victory against the West Indies in the second of the three match Investec test series, Bresnan earned the moniker as the win was England’s 13th successive win with Bresnan in the side.

In fact, Bresnan is yet to be on losing side at the highest level for England, winning all 13 tests he's been part of. However, Bresnan, or Big Tim as he is affectionately called, prefers being called his team’s lucky charm, rather than a mascot. Speaking to the Express newspaper (UK), Bresnan explained why he preferred the word ‘charm’ over ‘mascot’.

“I prefer being called a lucky charm to being ... .. Read complete article

Captain Strauss admits it was a tough win at Trent Bridge.

Andrew Strauss is a happy man. Not only has his team won the three match Investec test series, he also got consecutive hundreds to ensure his team’s victory and silence his critics. The win is England’s record breaking seventh straight test series win on home soil. Strauss and his team went about things with surgical precision, coming back at key moments to take the game away from the West Indians. England totally outplayed the Windies and Strauss’ is evidently one of the key factors in their victory march.

Speaking to the BBC, Strauss was a tad generous in saying that winning the series had been “tough”. He had good reason for this display of modesty. He told the ... .. Read complete article

Gibson wants young West Indians to learn from opposition.

England have been clinical in their approach to the ongoing test series against the West Indies. If anything, the islanders have only looked good in parts. The first two tests have left them scampering around with just a few players showing some character. Their bowling has been good though and yet lacks the spirit an international bowling side needs. The threat a batsman must feel when padding up to face a bowling attack should be real. That is something that is missing from this West Indian side. Even their coach Ottis Gibson admits that his team has a lot to learn from the English side.

The West Indies have already lost the three match test series and ... .. Read complete article

2nd test : Windies fight again but England score an easy win.

West Indies appeared to be in command despite having lost early wickets on day one. Despite having lost Chandrpaul and half the team, Samuels made an unbeaten century and captain Darren Sammy was unbeaten on 88 as West Indies, at 304/6 walked back to the pavilion, satisfied with the way things went. The English bowlers were brilliant initially but later on it appeared that they were either too tired or had suddenly lost any bite that they had within.

Sammy made his maiden test century on day two. Having turned the game totally around for the Windies with Samuels, Sammy should have kept an eye on a big match-winning score. However, despite having had an easy start with ... .. Read complete article

Day 3 : Poor last session leaves Windies very little hope.

As England went home last night, captain Strauss was eyeing an innings victory. Kevin Pietersen was looking for a century and the West Indies, well, they really wanted to get the day past them and hope for a better day tomorrow (today). As it turned out, after chasing the leather on day two, the West Indians came back strongly today to make a match of it, only to hand over the advante to home team once again with a poor last session..

To start of day 3, England walked in at 259/2, more than a hundred behind the visiting West Indians. They had Andrew Strauss at hundred and Pietersen at 72. Ravi Rampaul started with a slightly wide ... .. Read complete article

Day 1 & 2 : Windies fight but England still in drivers seat.

If day one belonged to the heroics of Marlon Samuels, day 2 saw Darren Sammy making a century. The captain made his maiden test century, after 25 test long wait. After the way the two West Indians batted yesterday, they walked out today looking positive. English bowlers would have appreciated when the umpires called stumps yesterday. They were on top in the first two sessions of the match, but Samuels and Sammy turned it totally around for them. The pitch appeared a lot more cracked than yesterday and one expected Graeme Swann to have a big role to play. That didn’t happen though, but Tim Bresnan was easily the pick of the bowlers with 4/104. West Indies would have liked ... .. Read complete article

Holding lashes out at Gibson, WICB over player treatment.

Former West Indian great Michael Holding (also known as ‘Whispering Death’) has come down strongly against the West Indies cricket board and officials’ treatment of their players. Criticizing the board’s management, Holding said treatment of senior players leaves a lot to be desired..

In an interview to the Daily Mail tabloid (UK), Holding further described the WICB Chief Executive Ernest Hillaire as arrogant and team coach Otis Gibson as someone completely incapable of handling players in the team. He also said that it’s the manner in which the board treats the players that has led to the absence of so many important players. Preview : Windies return where they've never lost to England!

The first of the three match Investec test series was a lip smacking encounter that went down till the last day. Despite having dominated the match for the first three days, England faltered on day four, allowing visitors to came back strong, putting up a decent target for home team to chase and their bowlers picked up 2 quick wickets as day four came to an end. If it wasn’t for heroics from Alastair Cook and Ian Bell on the last day, the match could well have gone the West Indies’ way.

England have had a few days to regale themselves for the success, get glowing report cards and plan for the second test. They are going unchanged ... .. Read complete article

Tino Best happy to be recalled, says he's a hard worker.

After a satisfactory debut, West Indies’ paceman Shannon Gabriel fell prey to a back injury, making way for Tino Best who has been summoned to fill in for the injured Gabriel. Despite a good couple of domestic season in the West Indies, Best was anything but expecting a recall into the national side. After all, it has been three years since Best wore a West Indian cap at the international level.

The 30 year old Barbados pace man was recently selected in the squad for the series against Australia, but didn’t make it to the playing eleven for any of the matches. Best is also named in the West Indies A squad that is scheduled to ... .. Read complete article

Broad excited to be back to home ground Trent Bridge.

Stuart Broad is no stranger to walking into matches with the feeling of something special. He got a eleven wicket haul against the West Indies in the first test at Lord’s and at one point, was up for a hat trick too. While he didn’t get the hat trick, he got his names on the Lord’s honours boards for batting and bowling – one of only 7 cricketer to do so.

Broad now makes his way back to his home ground and that too, with a hat trick to back him (Broad took a hat trick against India last year at Trent Bridge.) Broad took MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh and Praveen Kumar in succession.

Tino Best replaces injured Shannon Gabriel in England.

West Indies’ Lord's debutant Shannon Gabriel has been ruled out from playing the rest of the test series in England, following problems with his back. The 24 year old from Trinidad surprised many when he was selected to play ahead of mildly injured Ravi Rampaul and put up a good bowling performance in the first innings, picking up 3 wickets for 60 and an over all 4 wickets for 86 runs in the first test. Pietersen lauds Strauss; wishes Gayle joins Windies.

Expressing complete faith in his captain Andrew Strauss, former England captain Kevin Pietersen said that he never doubted Strauss’ skills and that he loved witnessing Strauss’ century from up close. Strauss’ 122 in England’s first innings of the first test was instrumental in their side getting a decent and crucial lead against the West Indies. According to the ECB website, Pietersen said, “Strauss is a fantastic guy and I was more happy for him scoring that hundred than I have been for any other team-mate when they have scored a hundred. I loved the fact that he did that.”

Pietersen has had his share of lean phases. He went without a test century from March 2009 to December ... .. Read complete article

Will WICB summon Gayle to aid stuttering team in England?

Now that the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s IPL run is over and Chris Gayle is free again, the question that arises is – will the WICB sort things out with Gayle and ask him to join his national side in England. West Indies today went down in 1st test at Lord's, fightingly. Would Gayle’s inclusion in the side give West Indies a much needed shot in the arm? Or should that question have started with the word ‘wouldn’t’?

The England tour was always going to be tough and the WICB and players have traded blows over issues such as player treatment and choosing lucrative franchises over national duty. Other West Indians Sunil Narine and Kieron Pollard are playing for ... .. Read complete article
