I'd like to coach India - Steve Waugh

He prefers using pen & paper (lucky me as I do too) in the modern world of notebooks ~ yet have chunked out 11 books. His life is very much away from cricket and more into Charity works, but true love don't fade that quickly. do they?

Steve Waugh, the former Australian cricketer can make headlines anyday, but the two Times of India articles I'm talking about (one by Steve himself & other an interview) appeared very quietly on the day of world cup final. 28th April it was, when Steve Waugh made himself available for coaching India. In interview, he said "My name always gets thrown up. but being coach of India is a tough job. Its a ... .. Read complete article

Team India on yet another training camp : Pepsi series preview

New opponent. New series... so a new Training camp, at a new venue.

You may feel our Indian boys concentrate more on advertisements and less on their cricket, but that's not the truth. You feel that way because those tv channels shoot those ads so many times at you - that you dream what Mahendra Singh Dhoni is endorsing... Ever realised those advertisements are at higher voice pitch than the live match commentary itself?

9 hours of non-stop same ad video is played on your television on an ODI day, and you have no where to run away but to keep rehearsing it.

Stars are back as Ranji trophy reaches Last super league matches.

Ian Chappell believes Australia will always come back as the dominatant team at International level, because their domestic cricket is very strong. Constituted with only 6 domestic teams (New South Wales', Victoria, Tasmania, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia), around 100 countries best cricketers first fight for a place in National domestic team and then play against each other time and time again... and then a few more time - taking their level as high as possible.

England must believe they can still keep the Ashes

To keep on living, you have to have a reason. And that reason needs to be strong enough to pull you through tough times..

England Ashes team is in toughest time of the Australian tour and the only way they can survive is by believing they can still do what they came for - retain the Ashes.

Adelaide loss never seemed possible. That's the beauty of test matches and test series'. If you can keep your nose not far behind you opponent - your winnings chances will come when no one sees it.

Same is the situation with the series right now. If they can pull off a win at Perth, ... .. Read complete article

Thank you Wasim Akram.

Talent alone is like no talent. You have to work hard at it and also need someone to nurture your gift..

Many of us know within ourselves, but rarely discuss it that highest one day wicket taker - Wasim Akram is the reason behind the success Irfan Pathan has had. It was 2003 tour of Australia when Irfan brust onto the scene, and Wasim Akram started his career as Commentator. With ESPN and star Sports.

What actually happened behind the cameras - I don't know. But Wasim Akram, like any other honest former cricketer - started to work with a new talent from India. Irfan Pathan didn't had the pace of "young" Wasim Akram, neither had the accuracy.

Sourav

Tricks for England - First.

You cannot win a test match by scoring 900 runs when opposition makes 200 and 200 for 9 wickets. But you surely can win a test match by taking 20 wickets for 100 runs having made only 101 yourself.

England have to find batsmen who can make runs consistently but if they can find bowlers who are good enough to bowl out Australia twice - they will win half the battle.

Consider this - Glenn McGrath, Brett Lee, Mathew Hoggard, Steve Harmison, Andrew Flintoff and to an extent, Shane Watson are the six "right right handed" fast bowlers sure to play the first few test matches.

Ricky Ponting must apologise to Mr. Sharad Powar.

I wanted West Indies to win that Champions trophy final. Not because I like Caribbean team more than the fighters from Down Under, but because it's human nature to back the odds against and seek the thrills.

I described that final match while highlighting the ego associated with whoever dominates anything in the World (Lion, Roger Federer and Australian cricket team), and there is nothing wrong with it. But then, its very important for a cricket match that the ball should stay in its “gradually deteriorating” condition as the match goes on whereas in baseball - they never pitch the ball on the ground, so there is no case of changes ... .. Dinesh Mongia selected, but what were the alternatives..??

I am not sure Indian cricket team's selectors has ever selected a squad which was acceptable to whole country. When I was 13-14 years old, I read an article by Sunil Gawaskar where he had selected his World XI team...

He started the article apologising to those whom he had not included in that special imaginary team, and also added that he hated selecting cricket teams as he knew he won't be able to impress one and all.

On 20th July, Indian team for Triangular series in Sri Lanka was announced. It contained a cricketer who already have had plenty of opportunities at the international level and somehow wasted them. This is ... .. Read complete article

Is it true that "Rawan of Ramayan" used to live in Lanka which now being knows as Sri Lanka...??

I don't know. But what I know is if you try to pronounce the full name of anything in Sri Lanka, you are falling into a big trouble. For example, the full name of Sri Lankan fast bowler - Chaminda Vass is
Warnakulasuriya Patabendige Ushantha Joseph Chaminda Vaas.

Similarly, the full name of RPS cricket stadium in Colombo is Ranasinghe Premadasa Stadium, Khettarama, Colombo in Sri Lanka – named after the former President of Sri Lanka Ranasinghe Premadasa. India - South Africa - Sri Lanka Tri Series, August 2006.

After a not so small break of 44 days, Indian team will be reaching Sri Lanka for a tri series, which will also include South Africa. South African team will already be there for a two test match series - from 27th of July and 4th of August against Sri Lanka and as Indian team will be the last team to arrive to the island, its easy to say that they will be least habbituated to the conditions..

Having said that, Indian team plays best while playing in sub-continent and Sri Lankan pitches will be no alien for them. This is a very good chance for Mahendra Singh Dhoni who had "not so good" series in West Indies, ... .. Read complete article

Twenty20 for Indian cricket fans.

"We were out voted 10-1in the recent ICC meeting in London..!!"

This is what BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah had to say on why exactly twenty20 is coming to India, later than any other country all over the world. The story started in February 2006 when ICC first proposed twenty20 cricket matches to cricket boards of other countries which was first experimented in England. Cricket was born in UK and it spread all over the world with the passing time, but somehow, Youth of England were running away to soccer matches rather than visiting a International test match. The biggest reason was that cricket is a lengthy game, whereas soccer lasted only ... .. Read complete article

Difference between twenty20 matches and one day cricket.

Wasn't I satisfied with the existing two formats of cricket, i.e test match cricket and one day Internationals....??

I guess my is yes. I didn't really feel the need of another form of cricket match. I was quite happy watching my team play ODI series, tournaments and then few test series in an year but then, I was born in 1982 which means that One day cricket came lot before I was born. It was natural for me to get adjusted with this format of cricket. India to play 5 ODI's against West Indies in Toronto, Canada.

Lets get this straight – It was Indian team who went to South Africa for the first time in 1992, after Proteas came out of the ban which kept them out of International cricket for 20 years, it was Indian team who played 4 test matches instead of 3 against West Indies recently when West Indies cricket board was short of money to prepare for the coming Cricket World Cup.

Now again Indian cricket board has given the green signal to a five one day international series against West Indies in Toronto, Canada in September. Again for the same reason – West Indies needs money and for that they need to play more cricket. ... .. Read complete article

Power plays are now being utilized by cricket captains rather than just doing away with them.. lets find out how..??

It takes just one ball to get the batsman out, but there's always a chance for a bowler to come back on the next ball, or the ball after that. Probably that's why, since the day this rule was made in cricket, everything else has been dominated from a batsman's perspective.
