AUSvSA ODI Series April 2009
Last time Australia played ODI series in South Africa, they were clueless for first two games but made a remarkable comeback to win next two. They lost deciding game at Johannesburg were Proteas chased down 434, but on the whole, Aussies didn't fair too bad in that limited overs bilateral series.Come April 2009, Australia and South Africa begin another 5 One day international series for which, Australian squad is selected with few new faces like Brett Geeves - the bulky Tasmania medium pacer plus hard hitting batsman along with Adam Voges who played in T20 international against Kiwis a month ago. David Warner retains his place (only for Twin T20 games) to explode at top of order whereas Callum Fergusson will take middle order responsibility along with vice-captain Michael Clarke and Hussey brothers. This will be David Hussey's first trip to African land and this busy cricketer will like fast pitches here where batters get full value for their shots. Peter Siddle and Ben Hilfenhaus are rested after grueling 6 tests back to back but Mitchell Johnson will play on. Johnson has been biggest nemesis for South Africans in last 3 months and Aussies selectors don't want to kill the rhythm their left arm fast bowler has found. Nathan Bracken has been an automatic choice for quite some years now. James Hopes and Cameron White will take up the all rounders spots but there's no sign of Andrew Symonds or Shane Watson. Ben Laughlin is the newest face. The Queensland fast bowlers performed brilliantly to take his state team (Queensland) to Ford Ranger cup finals against Victoria. Ricky Ponting will lead Australian squad on this South African ODI series, who himself has tremendous record in limited over cricket. Australia Squad for ODI Series in South Africa, April 2009 : Ricky Ponting (capt), Michael Clarke (vice-capt), Nathan Bracken, Callum Ferguson, Brett Geeves, Brad Haddin, Nathan Hauritz, James Hopes, David Hussey, Michael Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Ben Laughlin, Adam Voges, Cameron White.
