1st Test : Srilanka survive scare : Pakistan pick points : Match Draw


Younis-Khan-Bowled-250209.jpg Younis Khan, newly appointed as full time Pakistan captain, made his first decision wrong by inviting Lankans into bat first on a placid National stadium pitch.

Srilankans marched upto 644 before declaring on 7 wickets, providing a chance for Younis Khan to correct his fault. and so he did, with splendid triple century and took home team for an unlikely lead of 121, which proved to be enough for Pakistan fast bowlers to scare Lankans in the second innings.

Lankans lost 5 wickets in their 31 over second innings before umpires and both captains agreed to call off the match as draw!

It was a Karachi test match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka was about records, not about winning or losing.

**Highest 4th wicket partnership in test match history = Mahela Jayawardene + Thilan Samarweera = 437 runs from 108.3 overs.

**23rd test match triple century = Younis Khan's 313 off 568 balls with 27 fours & 4 sixes. Younis Khan now holds the third highest score by a Pakistani batsman, behind Inzamam-ul-Haq's 329 and Hanif Mohammad's 337 which still remains the best score by a pak batsman in test match innings. Younis Khan's 313 is now the 6th highest score by a batsman batting at number 3.

**The first ever time both captains scored double century for their teams. Younis Khan = 313 & Mahela Jayawardene 240.

**Only the second time in history of test cricket that three batsmen scored at least double century in a test match. Thilan Samarweera joined Khan and Jayawardene with his 231, match effort by Bill Lawry (210), Bobby Simpson (201) & SM Nurse's (201) in a test match between West Indies and Australia at Bridgetown back in 1964.

**This Pakistan vs Srilanka 1st test match of 2009 test series now also holds the record for highest total ever made at Karachi stadium and the highest partnership by any team for any wicket at the ground.
