Test Squad : Younis Khan to captain Pakistan (again).Filed under
SL in Pak Jan-Feb 2009
Cricket, specially tests, have dried up for Pakistan. the last test match they played was way back at Bangalore against India in early December 2007 and the next test match they'll play, thanks to generous Sri Lankan team, is from 21st January 2009 = a gap of over an year & 2 months!Mohammad Yusuf has joined Indian Cricket League (ICL) since then, whereas Shoaib Akhtar has dissolved into fitness fiasco. another promising fast bowler, Mohammad Asif, is fighting his dope battle away from any form of cricket whereas Yasir Hameed never looked like a champion top level cricketer. So, here's how new looking Pakistan test match squad :- Younis Khan has finally agreed to became Pakistan full time captain after axe fell on Shoaib Mallik for losing recently concluded home ODI series to visiting Lankans. Pakistani cricket has never been afraid of throwing young blood into International cricket, neither they did this time by filling up batting vacancies with the likes of Kurram Manzoor - the right handed opening batsman who will be fighting out a place to open along side Salman Butt with another rookie called Ahmed Shahzad who scored fine century against Srilankans in a practice game.. even though he wasn't in the 22 probables selected by Pakistani selectors for this Pakistan vs Srilanka 2 test match series 2009. Sohail Khan is one fast bowler world cricket fans must watch out for. He's relatively tall, strongly built and speedy but the best aspect of this right arm fast bowler is his eagerness to aim the three stumps.. looking for a bowled or lbw was how former Pakistani greats Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram used to do and Sohail Khan appeared in same mold in his debut ODI series a month ago. Little known Mohammad Talha, another right arm quickie from Faisalabad (product of Aaqib Javed lead National Cricket Academy) has been drafted into Pakistan squad for some top level experience. I hear he's quite brisk in pace for his silky body and performed very well for Pakistan under-19 teams. Fawad Alam, the left handed steady batsman with good left arm spinning ability, is the surprize inclusion as he's always been considered as a limited over cricket material. Yasir Arafat is another allrounder in the squad, and a deserving candidate too. Danish Kaneria makes some sort of comeback into Pakistan national side, even though he was a part of Indian tour in 2007 as well. Pakistan Squad for 2 test match against Srilanka = Younis Khan (captain), Salman Butt, Khurram Manzoor, Ahmed Shahzad, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shoaib Mallik, Kamran Akmal (wicket keeper), Faisal Iqbal, Asim Kamal, Fawad Alam, Umar Gul, Daniesh Kaneria, Sohail Khan, Mohammad Talha, Yasir Arafat.
