Scorecard : Pakistan vs Srilanka, 1st ODI, Karachi : 20 January 2009

Salman-Butt-Khurram-Manzoor-Pakistan-Openers.jpg Match : Pakistan vs Sri Lanka, first One day International of Bank Alfalah 3 ODI series.

Debuts : none.
Toss : Srilanka, elected to bat first.
Result : Pakistan won by 8 wickets, 4.1 overs remained.
Series Result : Pakistan 1-0 ahead with 2 more games to play.
Man of the match : Salman Butt.
Umpires : Nadeem Gauri (Pakistan) & Nigel Long (England).
Head to head : 112 ODIs overall, Pakistan = 68, Srilanka = 40, 1 tied, 3 no results.

Srilankans came into this match tired, having played in Zimbabwe and in Bangaldesh back to back and the kinds of pitches they were playing on, were hardly any good for batting. Today's pitch at Karachi stadium had nothing for bowlers and everything for batters.

Srilanka were off to shinning start, Dilshan and then Jayasuriya sent new ball to all parts of national stadium before the got out. Rao Iftikhar Anjum brought home team back with quick wickets (he even was on hat-trick once) as Srilanka bundled out without finishing their quota of overs.

Pakistani openers, in typical sub-continent manner - didn't let free opportunity to improve their batting average with an opening partnership of 168 runs.

No interview : for man of the match Salman Butt. Probably, Host Dominic cork forget it or he doesn't like Butt much but it was a strange incidence where man of the ODI didn't get to tell a word!
