Come year 2015 when eleventh cricket World Cup is to be played in Australia & New Zealand, South African fans will be cheering for Melbourne Cricket ground to host the finals, if their team goes all the way.Reason ~ South Africa can't be beaten at Melbourne in One day internationals. well, not at least by Australia, not until today (16 Jan 09). At Melbourne, South Africa have played 8 ODI, losing only the very first one back in 1992 World Cup against England. Seven wins since then, in a row. beating Australia 6 out of 6, and New Zealand once. Remarkable was the patience with which Proteas played today. Electing to bat first, Aussies were off to fine start with captain Ponting picking easy runs and opener Shaun Marsh collecting occasional boundaries.. Umpires Ian Gould from England and local umpire (Oxenford) turned down close lbw shots and even few catches were ropped but African bowlers didn't crumble under pressure. They maintained accurate line & length and back-it up with good ground fielding. Ricky Ponting developed some trouble in elbow before edging one delivery from counterpart captain Johan Botha. Michael Clarke took his time to get settle which brought the run rate down a little. Shaun Marsh looked good for his first one day century but a shortpitched outgoing Morne Morkel delivery took outside edge of his bat & home team slumped to 4 wickets in 38th with total score on only 174. David Hussey once again proved why he's probably the best oneday cricketer in Australia today with his 50 ball 52 under tough conditions. While Hussey was at the crease, and opting for batting power play, Aussie run rate was improving all the time.. Hussey missed an inswinging Albie Morkel delivery and lower order batters finished with 271 on board. South African chase suffered two crucial blows in Hashim Amla & Herschelle Gibbs both played onto their wickets. Man in form Jean Paul Duminy joined Jaques Kallis who was dismissed after doing some repair job in the 19th over. Here - this one day international was wide open but Neil McKenzie made sure he stays with left handed Duminy. Fall of JP Duminy, Mark Boucher and Vaughn Van Jaarsveld inside 3 overs pegged visitors back but a 18 ball unbeaten 40 by Man of the match Albie Morkel sealed the game for south Africans.
