Why Doordarshan (DD1) not showing India-Australia test series?Filed under
Aus in Ind 2008
It's no secret that when cricket is on - India is playing - nothing else is bigger for Indians. Now, the businessmen involved in telecast of a cricket match know this fact and they constantly search for loopholes in guidelines set by Indian government which forces broadcasters to share live feeds with DD national - the free to air channel of India. Government guidelines state that all the cricket matches involving India (of national interest) must be shown on DD1 as well, irrespective of who own the telecast rights. Clause is - which matches are of national interest and which are not? In October 2007 - Indian government modified the rules by saying that all One day Internationals & T20 cricket matches played by India are of national interest.. for Test matches - act released on October 3, 2007 says that only those fixtures that are considered of "high public interest" are mandatory to be shown on Doordarshan.. like India Pakistan series. Question : isn't India vs Australia test series, which is played in India itself, of national interest? Post your views! List of Channels : see which sports channels are showing the current India vs australia test series, October-November 2008 worldwide here. Note : Nimbus channel Neo Cricket is the channel cricket fans in India must find to watch this highly competitive test series. Direct to home services like Tata Sky and newly launched Digital TV from Airtel and Big TV by relaince also include Neo Cricket in their channel package but Dish TV - the oldest DTH service in India - still doesn't have Neo Sports with them. Local Cable Operators in India also have the option of showing neosports given that they opt for the channel and pay a hefty price and monthly fee.
