Lance Cairns, father of one of the best all-rounders of all time - Chris Cairns, was a medium-fast bowler . The most interesting aspect of his cricket is the first international test match he saw was the first one he played. He was called the rawest of fast bowlers that played the game of cricket. He was also known for his good looks... many times people came to a cricket stadium only to watch Lance carins, not necessarly cricket!! Here is his cricket profile..
And Chris Cairns proved to be the best of son a father can have, as he not only took over his profession but also bettered it. His ability to hit huge sixes was always a threat to the oppositon but the match I remember him for is the first ICC Knock-out tournament, that was played in Nairobi. Our Indian team had beaten Australia and quite a few other teams to reach the finals and were winning it comfortably before Chris Cairns came to New Zealand's rescue. Along with Adam Parore, he took black Caps to victory. Many will be surprised to know that that was the first ODI Championship that Zew Zealand ever won!!
He also was a good medium pacer(See Profile) and won quite a few matches though only his bowling abilities, although injuries forced him to play only as a batsmen in later part of his career. A career that he finally finished today - 23rd of Januray, 2006. Here is what he has to say in his last cricket speech. I wish him good luck for his future..
