Indian rookies stun World Champs, win CB Triseries 2008Filed under
CB Tri-series 2008
In boxing ~ you beat the world champion to be the champion. in cricket - world cup (every 4 year event) defines who's the champion country until next world cup comes around..not fair, is it? 4 year is a long duration in which any cricket team can lose form, fail to win & forget they were the reigning world champions! January 2007 : itsonlycricket.com published an article, saying 'this should be the end of Aussie dominance' when Warne, McGrath & Langer retired on the same day. 14 months later, today, Indian rookie cricketers won the Commonwealth bank (CB) triseries beating home team Australia (2007 world cup winners) back to back in first two of best of 3 finals. 2nd final scorecard, Triseries all match Results. India, world champions in Twenty20 format, have made giant steps forward as an one day international team. Our test team has won in West Indies, England, Pakistan.. I dare say - if India can win back Border-Gawaskar trophy against Australia in next 4 test match series against Australia in October 2008 at home - they will become uncrowned world champions in cricket! in all three formats of International cricket. Sachin Tendulkar is a team man. having struck magnificent century in first final, Sachin had not recovered completely as this second final of commonwealth bank triseries started to unfold only 48 hours later.. yet, this legend batsman batted past the 40th over & single-handedly made sure India get a substantial total on board after captain Dhoni had elected to bat first on a flat Brisbane pitch. Few hiccups towards the end, India set a target of 259 for Australia. 3rd ball - Praveen Kumar induces edge of Adam Gilchrist's bat, then foxed Ricky Ponting into a bad pull shot. right handed Uttar Pradesh swing bowler bowled Michael Clarke to pick his 3rd wicket & Australian chase suffered a major setback. Bit of recovery from Hayden-Symonds, then brilliant fightback by Hussey-Hopes partnership.. in the end - India, who always had the control over this match - emerged as winners! Interesting notes from 2nd final **This is the first time India won the Triseries in Australia, after 7 participations in which they reached finals 4 times including this 2008 event.
**Sachin Tendulkar came very close to scoring back to back centuries after his 91 in this match & 117* in first final. last time Sachin scored back-to-back centuries in one day international cricket was at Sharjah in 1998.**Harbhajan Singh had a camera standby on him, monitoring every his every movement while on the field. never happened in cricket before when a cricketer is monetized so closely, (like a prisoner) without having no case against him! Harbhajan answered all with a fine fine performance! **This was last International match for Adam Gilchrist, retired from all forms of cricket hence forth. Adam Gilchrist, one of finest cricketer Australia ever produced & probably the best wicket-keeper batsman world cricket has ever seen had already retired from test cricket. End of a fairytale cricketing career, with a sad loss! **The picture you see on left is Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds hitting a naked man (intruder, streaker) who ran onto the field while this final match was in full flow. Cricket Australia might question, or even punish Andrew Symonds for hitting that naked man, as every Aussie cricketers had been given strict orders not to indulge into any intruder activity!
