Another bowlers day, another Aussie victoryFiled under
CB Tri-series 2008
India had never won an odi over Australia at Adelaide oval after 3 attempts before this match.. they still hasn't! Record stands at 4 played, 4 losses!
India vs Australia, Match 7 of current commonwealth bank triseries, yet again, failed to see a high scoring contest, although it would be wrong to blame the Adelaide Oval pitch. it had good bounce, no exaggerated swing or seam for bowlers and a lush green exceptionally fast outfield.. in other words - conditions were perfect for batters to dominate.
Script turned out exactly opposite : Australia huffed & puffed to 203 after winning the toss and bowlers defended their total. 19 wickets fell but only one batsman managed a score par 50 : Michael Clarke, 79 off 108. Rhythm is important for a bowler & Ishant Sharma has found it. Same cannot be said about other opening bowler - Sreesanth, which prompted captain Dhoni to bring in Munaf Patel as early as in the 5th over.. By then - Aussie openers (Gilchrist-Hayden) had been comprehensively beaten half a dozen times by Ishant alone and Munaf sustained the pressure. Chest Guard is a rare protective gear for Australian batsmen but most of them were wearing it after Michael Clarke has hit by Lasith Malinga in previous match. One moment, after bowling a foot no ball which brought up free hit, Ishant Sharma ran in but didn't bowl. went back to his mark & bowled again - Gilchrist failed to score off that free hit! we also saw Sreesanth trying to bowl from good 3 yards behind the popping crease. Indeed, young Indian bowlers tried everything. Finally luck turned their way & wickets started to fell - Australia 1 for 40 turned into 73 for 5 by the 24th over. Brad Hogg's partnership with Clarke made sure Australia play their full quota of overs & put up respectful total. Mini Scorecard. (see full scorecard) Australia : 203 for 9 wickets in 50 overs. Clarke 79, Hogg 19, Pathan 4/41 & Ishant 9/32. India : 153 all out in 41.2 overs. Gambhir 34, Yuvraj 26, Dhoni 37, Johnson 3/42. Sachin Tendulkar, when Indian chase started, tried to flick across the line off an Nathan Bracken delivery & was adjudged lbw. Irfan Pathan made good little partnership with Gautam Gambhir after which - 3 Indian batters threw their wickets inside 4 runs. another little partnership between Dhoni and Yuvraj which was artfully broken by Brad Hogg - tempting Yuvraj to hit his second six over mid-wicket boundary - the longest distance at Oval shaped ground of Adelaide. Ricky Ponting had some words for Harbhajan Singh after his dismissal off a short pitched delivery & then typical aussie SMART SLEDGING broke the concentration of Robin Uthappa. one miss, twice missed yet Uthappa tried third rash shot on 3rd consecutive delivery from Mitchell Johnson and edged a simple catch behind the wickets to Adam Gilchrist. That was that as for Indian challenge in this match. Related ArticlesCB Tri-series 2008
