Jayasuriya-Stitch-2008.jpg How many times have India played Srilanka in Australia? Never! one instance when both teams had to meet in 1992 at Mackay - match was rained off!

On 5th February 2008, Srilanka resume their Australian tour in which they played the 2 test match series vs Australia 1+1/2 months ago (lost 2-0) & now its time for commonwealth bank triseries. first match is against Indians..

now don't read too much into that test series loss - Srilankan batsmen displayed good technique to cope with bouncing balls in those two tests against Australia. Trouble was - they lacked scoring shots. and their bowlers took too long to find right bowling length on Aussie pitches. Lankans have had a quite re-arrival in Australia while high-profile India-Australia test series was on. in between - they played two tour game - won one and lost one.

Trevor Bayliss is current coach of Srilankan cricket team, who was assistant to Tom Moody under whom - Srilanka had reached the finals of world cup just 10 months ago. Now recently I wrote an article on new corp of coaches and mentioned how Bayliss is failing to keep up the ODI momentum Srilanka had achieved an year ago. Mahela Jayawardene is one of my favorite captain - very passionate & looks hungry - but his team would need to hit their top for very quickly in this trination tournament.

Kumar Sangakkara has already called this tournament as 'a virtual world championship'. Now are you aware of the fact that this 2008 CB triseries is the last edition of annual tri-series in Australia after 30 consecutive tournaments. see winners list.

Very Important is Weather Report for this India vs Srilanka one day international in CB triseries isn't as fine - says 'chance of rain' in daytime whereas 'rain' at night. We had similar weather report for Match 1 two days ago - which makes me wonder why not ICC or on-field umpires with both captains make a decision to play this ODI as only 40 or 35 overs match right from the beginning. Weather reports these days as quite correct to be believed & people can finish the match before rain starts to get heavier by the night. on Sunday for Ind v Aus Match 1 - we did get 50 overs of cricket.

Today, when T20 has become such an obvious success - why run away from curtailed one day matches of like 35 overs each side right from the beginning? We'll have a fine cricket match with a winner, which we all want!
