India overwhelmed in one-off KFC Twenty20Filed under
India tour of Australia
Over 85,000 Melbourne crowd packed in witness this one-off Twenty20 International between India and Australia, but in return - hardly got their money worth..'Overconfidence', is one word I would use to explain how captain Dhoni won the toss & opted to bat first, underestimating the fact that his batting line-up is all (except Virendra Sehwag) was changed from the test series. After Sehwag's run out off the 5th ball of the match, young Indian batsmen started to realize how different it is to bat on Aussie pitches than what they have grown up practicing on at home. We had both Gautam Gambhir & Robin Uthappa caught at mid-off region off slow deliveries from Nathan Brackan. Dinesh Karthik failed yet again, missing a full toss from Brett Lee which castled his stumps.. Rohit Sharma has never impressed me, neither he did today by being late on shot making.. captain Dhoni too couldn't find his smashing touch & India were reduced to 49 for 6 inside 12 overs. True the Melbourne pitch was slow, Lee bowled mostly short (intelligently) but young Indian batsmen failed in application after horrifying start. Irfan Pathan was the only batsman in Indian line-up who looked comfortable in the middle, and now wonder he was the only man to go past double figure score individually. Only 3 fours were hit by Indian batsmen. Australian chase for this smallish total was clinical. Adam Gilchrist played his shots and Michael Clarke saw home team home.
Michael Clarke was adjudged man of the match. Some KFC Notes **This was second match for Michael Clarke as captain, both Twenty20 matches and he has won both of them. This was the first time Australia had beaten India in a twenty match, having lost on both two previous occasions **Australian players had their nick names written on their shirt's back.. like Gilchrist had 'Churchie', Clarke had 'Pup', Hudge had 'Dodge ball' on their backs which regularly confused the commentators and viewers. Sunil Gawaskar made a fair comment that Australian cricket should keep these nick-names limited to their domestic cricket where all local fans watch the game.. while in International cricket - Internationl players have to be aware of who is which player.. and name on their back is very important! **India made only 74 in their innings - just 1 run more than lowest total in Twenty20 cricket by any team. Kenya were bowled out for 73 in their T20 world cup match against New Zealand. Related ArticlesIndia tour of Australia
