India deny Aussies their 17th, again & how

Kumble-Perth.jpg Almost 7 years ago, March 2001 it was when Indian beat Australia at Kolkata (after following on) to stop their winning streak of 16 matches.. That was Steve Waugh's team. Now Ricky Ponting's boys, won equaled the same invincible record, are now beaten at Perth.

Chasing target of 413, Australia were bowled out for 340 runs in 87 overs.

Prior to this loss at Perth, Australia played 24 tests at home - won 22 & drew 2. Last time they lost at home was at Adelaide, beaten by same Indian team. and guess what - next, last & 4th test match of current Border Gawaskar trophy 2007-08 will again be played at Adeialde Oval from 24th January. schedule.

Start of Day 4 of this third test match had overcast morning. Captain Kumble brought himself on, but didn't get much purchase off the pitch as the ball was fairly new - in comes 19 year old Ishant Sharma. Playing only his 4th test match - Ishant bowled 8 unplayable overs at Ricky Ponting but Aussie captain survived. After drinks, Kumble was ready to bring himself on, but Virendra Sehwag made the point that Ricky was on strike - Ishant is bowling well - give him another over!

Kumble - 'ek or dalega?'
Ishant - 'haan dalunga'
Meaning - Kumble asked if youngster could bowl another over, which he gracefully did - and got Ponting's wicket off the first ball off his 9th straight over of the day.

Since then, Indian fielders and bowlers rallied around each other & finished off any resilience that Aussie batters could show.
