Day 2 : Pratap & Pathan swing surprise search'of 17thFiled under
Ind v Aus 3rd test Perth
This is no time to relax. Experience of Indian boys & character of younger lot
has just began to surprise home team (Australia) who are on the verge of
rewriting history - 17 test match wins in a row! It's time to dominate. By finishing Australian first innings exactly in 50 overs, and compiling a lead of 170 runs with 9 wickets in hand - Indian team has done well on just another day in a 5 day game. They're yet to register any outright win or smile/pose with a trophy on current Australian trip 2008.. something they're very capable of! 4 wickets fell for 3 runs = end of India's first Innings. 330 they made, and 50 minutes to Lunch still remained. So - two small Australians openers began their first innings. At Lunch - scorecard read 22/3 in 8 overs. Two special wickets to Irfan Pathan whose 'Banana Swing' revisited, whereas Rudra Pratap brought Michael Hussey's wicket who was looking to off-drive on the up to get off the mark! Captain Ricky Ponting & Michael Clarke survived next 8 deliveries as players left for lunch on Day 2! Waca ground in Perth always has strong breeze, troubling every bowlers who runs in to bowl into it. Today - there was none. Result - first Irfan Pathan & then Ishant Sharma easily ran in to bowl sharp & test out the Australian top batting order. Temperature of 40 degrees too had no effect on rejuvenated Indian bowlers. Captain Anil Kumble waited patiently & admired every wicket his young pace trio were bringing to him. And when it was time to break Symonds-Gilchrist partnership or polishing off the tail - he brought himself on. and got his 600th test match wicket in the process.
Day 2 Notes ** Temperature at Perth, as I said, was very high - around 40 degrees and thus the umpires has decided for 3 drinks intervals (every 40 minutes) in every session of play. **Anil Kumble became just the 3rd bowler in history to test cricket to take 600 wickets. Shane Warne & Muralitharan ae the other two. Kumble, India's highest wicket taker, also holds the record for most caught and bowled dismissals - 32 of'em. Kumble's combination with Dravid at slips has fetched 54 wickets for India (2nd bext by any fielder-bowler combination). **Michael Hussey scored his first test duck (0) whereas Dhoni pouched 5 catches behind the wicket to become only the 7th indian to do so.
