Once not too long ago - England were the 2nd test team in world and pushing on for number 1 spot.

Their ODI record never improved, but ability to play good test cricket session after session was on a rise. They won back the Ashes in 2005, drew with India in India in 2006 and beat West Indies & Srilanka at home. Then, they moved to Australia and lost Ashes 2006 5-nil.
