Highest score by a batsman on ODI debut..
Desmond Haynes 1970s and 80s were two decades when West Indies dominated world cricket, severely. They had array of cricketers who were performing regularly and then, there were more than a few youngsters who were pushing for a chance..

Desmond Haynes was one of them who got an opportunity to play for mighty Windies team in a one day international at St John's in Antigua in which as many as 14 players made debut (9 from Australia & 5 from West Indies). It was the first game of that 1978 Australia tour of West Indies and Haynes scored a century thats still is the best score by a debutant in ODI after over 3 decades.

A right handed opener, Haynes struck 148 off just 136 balls that day with 16 hit two the boundary and two over it and was 6th batsman out as West Indies piled up handsome 313 from 50 overs and went on to win that match by 44 runs after rain curtailed Aussie chase.

Haynes couldn't score another three figure score for 54 ODIs after that but finished with 17 centuries in the format, which was then the most by any other cricketer in career before Sachin Tendulkar took over and hold the record since.

So far, only 9 batsmen have scored century on ODI debut while 3 others got nervous in nineties.

Our following list is limited to those rookies who score more than 80 runs on their debut.
