One last test of Dhoni's abilities!


India-Wicket-keeper-Dhoni.jpg In every piece of newspaper floating around, on every advertising hoarding you look up when red signal.. on tv (in ads and also) during a match. Everywhere is Dhoni!

I won't be exaggerating if I term this wicket-keeper batsman as "the most famous 26 year old, of India" considering the number of ladies visit itsonlycricket searching for girlfriends of MS Dhoni.

He's India's One day cricket captain & his glove-work is improving every day. BUT, in following, I'll stick my neck out to question/inspire Mahendra Singh Dhoni's ability to bat on pitches with extra bounce. He failed flat-out in South Africa, and his batting in England wasn't as convincing. West Indies (world cup) didn't provide him enough opportunities and this Jharkhand boy hasn't been on a New Zealand trip, as yet!

Now test is in Australia - a batsman's paradise that not many foreign batters have conquered! It will be interesting how this unconventional/multi-talented Indian cricketer negotiates Aussie pace battery and the occasional jokes from the crowd.

Fact : Dhoni's 4 centuries have come at Vizag, Jaipur, Chennai and maiden test ton at Faisalabad, so far!

Its not like Dhoni can't pull or hook a delivery, he can, but its his batting instinct to smash every ball over long on. Dhoni's first reaction is forward, always looking for over-pitched balls, and he ends up surprised whenever fast bowlers bang in the ball short. Now having watched every single innings he has played for India, I know Dhoni is also a smart batsman. He'll fight-out his time at the wicket and take Team India home.. that's why we love him so much, but that doesn't mean Australians will give him the easy singles when he first comes into bat. Grounds in Australia are much bigger and Dhoni's double job of keeping/scoring will be tested.

Its human nature to start loving someone famous whom you've never met. Today, India loves Dhoni and boy has he impressed with his work ethics & passion. now if this DAV Shyamli boy can improve his abilities just one notch up (sharpens his square-cut) and bats in Australia like he does in India (which I know he's capable of)..

he'll soon be one of "the most famous 27 year old in the World".
