India in Australia 2008 : ESPN Doordarshan broadcast


ESPN-Logo12.jpg Easy-to understand that whenever a country hosts an International cricket match - some private tv channel have got the live telecast rights. Cricket telecast shown in different countries is by broadcasters who buy the exclusive rights from host country boards!

Applying same rule - when India plays in Australia - its ESPN, Star sports and Star cricket (combination of three sports channel in India) who have the telecast rights from cricket Australia (ACB). There's Doordarshan (DD1 or DD National) in our story as well, but we'll first finish how ESPN-star combo will show the 2008 cricket series between India and Australia. and then the Tri-series including Srilanka as third team (fixtures list).

ESPN = English, Star cricket = Hindi
Cricket Commentary, specially in local language hindi, is a demand every sports channel is looking to offer for viewers. India tour of Australia will be live simultaneously on both ESPN and Star cricket and fans can opt for the voice they want to hear : Sunil Gawaskar, Harsha Bhogle, Ravi Shastri or Atul Wassan! Being an ODI series, Commonwealth bank triseries between India, Sri lanka and Australia will be live on Doordarshan. Commentary will be both in hindi and English alternately.

The India-Australia 4 test match series telecast depends upon how Indian government sees it. If court feels that the 3 mobile 'Border Gawaskar trophy' is important for Indian public - DD1 will telecast the 4 tests as well. Otherwise!!?!!

Tata Sky - Dish Tv - Cable Operators
This is a tricky part. Dish TV - the Zee combination DTH service has both Channels ESPN, starcricket and Star-sports in their package. Tata Sky doesn't. Consult this forum. As far as local cable operator around Indian cities are concerned - most of them have all the three ESPN channels in their packages (except a few exceptions ofcourse!).

Match start time
Cricket matches in different countries start at different time zones for people in different countries. In Australia - test match & day One day internationals has 5.30am as the start time from India timing zone. Day-night matches start 0840hrs in the morning. note that 16 to 20th January 2008 (the 3rd India vs Australia test match) to be played at Perth ground in Western Australia starts at 8am IST every day.
