Top 5 tips to successful cricket blogging

Keyboard-Cat.jpg I-wrote my first article when I was 14. Never allowed no one to read that piece - but that's how Itsonlycricket.com made her debut.

December 2005 to December 2007 (archive) - completing 2 years of cricket blogging, I suppose Itsonlycricket is in position to offer some valuable tips for aspiring cricket writers. or any sports writer wannbe..

I'll be short, so read the following carefully. just in case you think you've a independent sports writer in you!

Persistence
At beginning, you long for readers (early 40 days) but feel proud of your first ever blog. suddenly - heaps of traffic (towards 80th day) and then, one fine day - bad slowdown (at 130th day mark). Hardly anyone will come to read your blog... that's when you face real challenge to keep going. Those who over come, like Itsonlycricket did, realize the real/professional blogging pleasure.

To quote some physical estimation, in 2 years - Itsonlycricket.com is in position to tour along with Team India on any foreign territory like Australia, England or South Africa or Caribbean, cause it's a one man army!

Aggression
Write more and then, write some more! You're a master of your topic & you should find enough stories for your readers. Your articles are your wealth - more articles - more wealth!

Itsonlycricket, in 2 years, have produced almost 600 articles, which is < 1/day. Probably that's why itsonlycricket.com is only promising, not actually covering Indian team's tours.. yet! we aspire to reach 3 articles every 48 hours.

Passion
Watch the game to learn the game. and then, teach the game as you tell last night's match story. Being a sports writer, you'll find plenty of news floating around, but its important you write articles that can be read even after 1 year.

Itsonlycricket exclusive articles like 'cricket & girlfriends', 'Identify the cricketers', Mahendra Singh Dhoni's official site bring nearly 20% of our daily visitors. We also 'review cricket blogs' & enjoy writing 'player profiles'.

Read
other blogs. not only on your subject but on other varieties available online. If nothing - you'll learn how to combine words to create readable sentences!

Itsonlycricket have learnt a lot from Problogger

Wit
Its important a writer tells his views on a matter, in a manner which inspires their readers to express their side of story. Comments increase your pageviews, and also brings the readers back.. try to write entertaining stories along with information & resources.

Itsonlycricket.com doesn't allow comments. we've our reasons but new sports bloggers have to allow comments to develop readership. Itsonlycricket allowed it for almost an year but now has past that phase, and can do without, sadly!

Y?
It's next to impossible that you write part time & work for some MNC full time. To see a day when you call yourself a professional writer - you've to act accordingly. & twice harder. otherwise drop your plans of starting a blog right now.

I, Binit - the soul behind Itsonlycricket.com, have never worked for anyone. From Graduation till today - I eat, sleep & breath cricket while I watch, learn & admire every International match played.. I think I've a wonderful job!.

and I inspire you to join me.
