Left hand bat - left arm bowl - left foot forward

Tanveer.jpg Which left arm fast bowler you admire in International cricket? Chaminda Vaas? Irfan Pathan? or may be Mitchell Johnson of Australia?

Now picture the foot position of these left arm seamers : their bowling action is to put right foot ahead of left & bowl.. not the case with Pakistan's Sohail Tanvir. This Rawalpindi swing bowler (an allrounder arguably) is favorite of former Pakistan fast bowler (who always played against India) and now a National Cricket Academy coach - Aaqib Javed.

Javed believes that wrong-footed action of Tanvir & his ability to bowl deceptively quick deliveries (around 133kmph) can cause trouble for any batsman around the world. Result - only 3 years of first-class cricket in Pakistan and Sohail is ready for the cricket world to explore.

So, lets explore Sohail Tanvir in the following!

The batsman
The debate is whether Sohail is a batting allrounder or bowling allrounder. This left handed batsman is known for his sixes over mid-on, but his offside play and ability to play 'short pitch bowling' isn't as much praised about. Tanveer got his first chance with bat at highest level during India vs Pakistan T20 Cup finals at Johannesburg - and he hit first ball for a six.. over long on!

It remains to be seen how much Sohail Tanveer can improve with bat & what position he want to obtain in Pakistan batting line-up.

The bowler
They say Sohail is working on his inswingers, but with his un-orthodox (injury prone)bowling action & unusual foot position - its doubly tough for him to bring the ball in-to the right handers. Tanveer's stock delivery (main line of action) is to angle the ball away from right-handers or outswing it. with not much pace mind you!

Pakistan captain look to give Sohail Tanveer the new ball, so that he can obtain some help off the pitch. Sohail is also good in bowling around the stumps!

The statistics
As I said, only 17 first class games before this 12th December 1984 born was selected to play for Pakistan. This page would tell you more of Sohail's International career records, but what I can tell you - is some of the other bowlers who had similar unorthodox bowling action like Tanvir - Bhagwat Chandrashekhar of India, Mike Procter of South Africa, Lance Crains & Chris Harris of New Zealand with Max Walker.

The Interviews
Still looking for some journalist to tea-a-te with Sohail Tanvir and I can bring it to Itsonlycricket.com readers. Hopefully, some newpaper would do it soon, so watch out to know more inside of this Pakistan left arm - left handed - left foot bowler - Sohail Tanveer!!
