Challenger cup in India : History & now

Read this to know more on telecast issue, (or Itsonlycricket.com full coverage) but in following, I'll cover some little history pieces and present of high-profile domestic tournament of Indian cricket being played in Ahmedabad.

Who won previously
First played in 1994, India seniors won. for next three years, seniors continued to win the 4 day tournament, but not always they were the best team. In 1998, India A and India B were declared as joint winners after India seniors were thrown out of the tournament but final couldn't be played due to bad weather.

India seniors came back to win in 1999 and 2000 essay of Challengers cup but India A upset other two teams of best Indian One day cricketers in 2001. Surprisingly, Indian cricket board (BCCI) couldn't find no time to stage this cricket tournament named after NKP Salve in 2002 - due to heavy scheduling of Indian national team.

India A won next to times, in 2003 & 04 whereas India seniors beat'em all in 2005. Names of the three teams got changed to Blue, Green and Red - and both Red & Blue were joint winner in 2006 - again rain intrupted the final match.

Why team names were changed
good question. Little because BCCI wanted to add a new flavour to the this India based national cricket tournament and more because there were no seniors in the tournament. By naming the teams India Green, India Blue and India red - you don't know which will be the best and which is the worst.. so the audience attraction gets attracted.

The Sponsors
Various corporates have sponsored this tournament over the years and Ultra Tech will do it this time in 2007. This October 25, 26, 27 & 28 (the final day) is expect to attract some good fans all the way to the Sardar Patel ground and also on the TV where coverage will be done by Nimbus sports production.

The fast tracks
As reported earlier : quick and bouncy pitches have been prepared for this 2007 series, keeping in mind the Australian tour coming up for the national team. If the batsman have to make an impression - they'll have to do it in conditions like Down under.. well, excatly that but a BCCI try never the less.
The Dew Factor
is going to cause some trouble for the teams bowling second. In Ahmedabad, the temperatures have coming doing fast as we aproach the end of year, and coldness in air will damp the out field considerably. The three captains - Mohammad Kaif, Parthiv Patel & Virendra Sehwag will look to bat first but interesting will be how they marshal their spinners in the second session.

Selectors watching
all the 5 national selectors, along with Dave Whatmore will be present at the stadium to watch all the matches. The Indian team for the ODI series against Pakistan (starting 5th November) will be selected during the tournament and thus - best chance for veterns like Parthiv Patel to impress the moment or Manoj Tiwary to smash the selection panel once again after his unlucky injury.
