India remind who are the twenty20 champions

Gambhir-Brabourne-T20.jpg 8 twenty20 matches, 6 wins. add a world cup, and then a beautiful smile from a special lady to go with a thumping win over cricketing champions Australia.. certainly, Indian team couldn't have scripted the Brabourne evening any better.

But hey, there was Shah Rukh Khan (with wife), Sachin Tendulkar, Raveen Tondon (with husband), Sunil Gawaskar, Ravi Shastri too with plenty of politicians, watching Australia's try to better their twenty20 International record (they've lost 6 from 12 T20 matches so far). Nearly all CCI stadium in Mumbai was smiling and claping, although the cheer leaders/dancing girls were not as attractive (I'd to say that) as we saw in T20 World Cup in South Africa.. why did that one simle caught so much attention? why did I mention her in this post? moreso when we're not sure how much cricket that lady understands..!!

Moving on, 20th october 2007 it was, when India looked more confident in a cricket match, than their opposition Australia. Blazing start from Gilchrist was backed with captain's innings by Ricky Ponting. this, after Australia won the toss.

Mumbai crowd were (again) booing Andrew Symonds when he joined captain, already 40 strokeful runs from 25 balls. The Ponting we knew, should have completed a 130 from this platform, but form seems to have come down for the Tasmanian run-machine. or may be, Ricky is just warming up too long!!

Australia should have reached 200, but excellent work of Lal Chand Rajput (acting manager/coach of Team India) made the difference as Dhoni changed the bowlers smartly. India didn't give away baundaries in 10 overs out of 20 they bowled. at half time, Australia adjusted with 166 for 5 in their 20 overs.

Match on! you'll say. defending a runrate of 8.35 for 20 fresh overs from leathal pacers should be peice of cake for Aussie team, but it wasn't to be. Australia had their eyes set on the next flight to Sydney and desire to win this short little match was lacking. Ben Hilfenhaus played his first game in asia, bowled good bouncers and looked competitive. we must look for more off him in time to come.

But tonight, was Gautam Gambhir's night. Indians were eating their dinner, watching him stroke Australian bowling all around the park. 63 off 52 he made, and looked satisfied before got out. Exceptionally happy was Robin Uthappa, enjoying nice seat sharing with Irfan Pathan at the baundary edge - after hitting easy 35 off 26. Harbhajan Singh, I must mention him, was brilliant again.

-Deepika Padukone is that smiling lady's name, the daughter of former Badminton Champion Prakash Padukone. Dhoni says Deepika is his favorite model, and the January 5th born (in 1986) girl will be making her acting debut in the movie Om Shanti Om with Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan. I've seen her in some interviews and she talks 'smart'. she also appears to be a lucky girl, as India won, and she won the attraction when King Khan himself was next to her. -Virendra Sehwag, whose bithday it was today, made only 5 runs but became a father of son just the day before!

- Adam Gilchrist now has the most dismissals as a wicket keeper - 12 after he caught Uthappa off Clarke. Gilchrist broke the record of Bangladeshi keeper (Mushfiqur Rehman).

-Gautam Gmabhir made his 4th Twenty20 half century. he's at the top of list when scoring 50 comes in shortest version of cricket, along with Mathew Hayden. Gambhir has 290 T20 runs, only behind Hyados and Greame Smith of South Africa.

-6th T20 match win for India, as I mentioned at the top of article, which is equal to Australia and South Africa. Only Pakistan has recorded more wins in Twenty twenty internationals - 8.

-Although I was not surprized with Ricky Ponting's innings, he hit 13 fours in all - the second best after Herschelle Gibbs hit 14 fours against windies earlier this year.
