Pakistan (at last) win one over Proteas


MdYousuf117.jpg South Africa in Pakistan, 2nd ODI Lahore : Pakistan won by 25 runs and series tied at 1-1 with 3 games to go.

We discussed the benifits of someone scoring a century, in the first ODI. Looks like someone from Pakistani camp read the article and thus - Mohammad Yousuf didn't throw his wicket away this time.

Yousuf's 143 ball 117 with no six and only 9 hits to the fence might look slow, and in fact it was, but allowed other Pakistan batters to play their natural aggressive game. Shoaib Mallik was in six hitting mood, and 4 big ones followed. Pakistan could have got more than 265, but it looked good to defend under lights!

Guess what. at least 6-7 catches dropped and 4 free hits given, yet Pakistan won the match. Reason - they picked up wickets. under pressure from the start where Herschelle Gibbs and Jacques Kallis scored ducks, Proteas had no clue to spin of Abdur Rehman and quick leg-breaks from veteren Shahid Afridi.

Shaun Pollock and Albie Morkel continued the South African fight, but they ran out of batting resources at the end.. exactly why Pakistan lost the 1st odi - no one scored the century!!

-The first time Pakistan beat the visitors in this series. Pakistan lost the first test match whereas 2nd was a draw. Pak cricket team also lost the first odi at the same venue two days ago.

-13th ODI hundered for Mohammad Yousuf. He is 16 th batsman in the list of all time highest run scorer in one day international cricket, and third Pakistani behind Inzamam-ul-Haq and Saeed Anwar. Yousuf also has 55 half centuries.

-Rugby world cup final was on between South Africa and England at Stade de France. may be that's where Proteas mind were, not on the chase at Lahore.
