Whose fans are racist more? Part 1Filed under
India vs Australia
On normal days, Itsonlycricket doesn't pick these kind of topics. Discussing racism and abuse by some tiny section of fans among 50,000 cricket lovers at a stadium is possible at any ground in the world. Wankhede in Mumbai is not the first and you bet it won't be last where a group of friends went (just) over the line while interacting with an International cricketer. What happened to Andrew Symonds (someone mimicked him as monkey during 7th Ind v Aus ODI) happens all over the world. There's hardly any racism in it. why publise the issue when cricket already has even bigger ones. Its a waste of time for me as a writer, and you as a reader. But as it has happened for the first time in India, we'll make a note of what has been written about the issue in the print media around the world. Indian team is about to tour Australia in 2 months (schedule) and we shall see how Australian fans go over Indian cricketers. South Africa and England cricket teams in the past have accused Aussie fans to be hard to deal with. Here's what they said about (some) Indian fans & Andrew Symonds at Wankhede stadium, mumbai on 17th Oct 2007. ICC : message is simple: find culprits, throw them out and keep them out; up to everyone to ensure cricket remains known for respect, tolerance, diversity and fair play, not "hate-filled antics of tiny minority". Said the CEO. Full story. Aussie Media The Sydney Morning Herald : has the actual picture where two fans can be clearly seen (trying act monkey) and the article is written by Soumya Bhattacharya. must read this the 4 page story. The Age : has 'Insulting fans a blight on game' as their heading whereas Peter Roebuck says racism is the plague of the world. I really liked another story by Alex Brown on this website, saying 'sreesanth serene and ready to reap rewards' where Boxing day test match is the topic, which will be played between Australia and India at Brisbane from 26th december 2007. Alex tells us that Sreesanth has his father, brother and coach are reaching Australia for that test match. Indian Media Hindustan times : C'mon Mumbai, this isn't us. Full story. Times of India : says nearly same as itsonlycricket.com article says - not a big issue at all. Here. Itsonlycricket views Andrew Symonds played brilliantly. Australia won the series and that's what matters. Aussie media is trying to win the war of words, and make some cusion for own fans when the time comes.
