Rahul Dravid - The Captain Courageous!!A very famous newspaper that I read every morning published a Sunday special about Rahul Dravid titled - "Captain Courageous"
The man might have become the captain very recently and is yet to register great wins but has always proved his courage. I remember him bowling his off-spinners in Titan Cup, a tri-series that also included South Africa and Australia in 1996/97, when he was called a slow scorer. Not ideal for ODIs. And then when he established himself, Sourav Ganguly asked him to keep the wickets just before the 2003 World Cup. He did
that as well and quite well too. We also saw him batting more freely
and even started to slog during the last 10 overs, something which is
very tough for a batsmen who is so correct technically. Its very easy for me to a dozen more examples to show this man's courage but the latest one being him opening the batting at Lahore. I am sure he took Ganguly into the playing eleven more due to the pressure from media and to avoid unwanted questions than the experience of Sourav. Although Ganguly wanted to open, we all know that Shoaib and company would have jumped with joy. And that's why I think our "Captain Courageous" decided to take the challenge himself as he always have done. And didn't he succeed. As he always have!! One last thing I want to say is our team has yet again proved that they just don't seem the best batting eleven on paper but really are. I have seen Shoaib Akhtar not needing any assistance from the pitch for his yorkers and running through sides. But not against us. He also had a backing of huge total... but didn't managed to take a single wicket!! And today, the best thing that can happen is Sehwag breaking his own record for highest total by an Indian of 307. Or may be even 400. There's nothing left for Pakistan in it now!! Even Pakistan seems to know that and they have called for making sporting wickets at Faisalabad - the venue for the second test between India and Pakistan from 21st of January. The curator Agha Zahid had ensured bounce and life at the Faisalabad track. And one more thing, Pakistan has kept their squad unchanged for the second test.
