Missing the Spin trick against Aussies

PontingCantPlaySpin.jpgIt's simple science that the thing you haven't done before - will be tough to do for the first time. As human, we all need regular practice against new objecives & take our time to be a master of it.

Same is playing spin for Australian batsman. Neither their pitch back home, nor authorities or even the young blood want to spin the ball. In built agression make them a tear-away fast bowlers or hard hitting batsman. Waiting for flighted deliveries has always been tricky for Australia!!

Consecutively - their batters don't feel comfortable playing quality spin bowling.

Yet, when Australia's national cricket team comes to India, our selectors don't greet them with a double of spin. In Indian squad for the first 3 'Future cup' one day Internationals - only 2 spinners are there & both of them spin into the right handers. Ramesh Powar had a good tour of England whereas Harbhajan Singh was instrumental in winning T20 World Cup. But does it mean we don't bombard Aussies with as many spinning option we can find.

It will be wrong to expect our pacers to do the trick over wounded Aussies, who have 'not won' something recently. Only chance we have is with the trio of left arm seamers - Irfan Pathan, Zaheer Khan & Rudra Pratap Singh, who all may not be as leathal as they were in favorable conditions of England & South Africa.

India vs Australia will be a frequent tie in coming 4 months & we must look for innitiative. Don't think Aussies won't throw Shaun Tait (150kmph), Ben Hilfenhous (persistant outswing), Mitchell Johnson (accurate & fast) with pacer Brett Lee when Indian team travel down under in 2 months time.

In short - India must win this future cup series to keep some momentum with them for the forthcoming toughest assignment.

Piyush Chawla is out with an injury, but selecting Rohit Sharma as replacement was very wrong. Someone like Murali Karthik (who'll be sitting with Neo sports in commentary panel) or Rajesh Powar or Pragyan Ojha was a must for Team India.
