Pace & age in Aussie one day squad to India

BrettLeeIsBack.jpgWhen it comes to mentioning Australian cricket team, it's any cricket writers dream to find chinks in their armour.. yet, year after year, since late 90s ~ the team from downunder don't look to be getting any weak & neither they would when Aussie squad land in India for 7 ODI series in October 2007. the schedule.

Most of them were in Champions trophy 2006. Nearly all of them represented Australia in their 3rd consecutive World Cup win in March 2007 & every single of them feature in first ever twenty20 world championship in South Africa..

5 days hence, 7 India vs Australia ODI series starts on 25th September with final ODI to be played on 21st October. Either it's the brilliance of Australian national selectors to plug the youngsters at right time (preferbaly in home series), or its purely luck - but following 14 member squad to India is as strong as it can get --

The batters : Ricky Ponting (c), Michael Clarke, Mathew Hayden, Michael Hussey, Brad Hodge.
The All rounders - Adam Gilchrist (wk/vc), Andrew Symonds, Shane Watson.
The pace bowlers : Brett Lee, Nathan Bracken, Mitchell Johnson, Stuart Clark, Shaun Tait.
The lone spinner : Brad Hogg - the left arm chinaman bowler.

Few notes that I make of this squad :
-Glenn McGrath, who retired from International cricket after the Ashes series 2006 & world Cup 2007 - is been replaced by fast bowler Brett Lee.
-9 out of 14 selected for 7 ODI series in India are into their thirties. oldest is Brad Hogg aged 36, then Hayden & Gilchrist on 35, Symonds, Hussey, Hodge & captain Ponting are 32 whereas pace bowler Stuart clark is 31. Brett Lee has just entered his 30s.. nice thing is - Aussie bowlers are young & look fresh to play for a long time & keep fit.
-Brad Hogg is the only spinner in the squad. Keeping in mind that the 7 ODI series will be played in India - weren't Aussie selectors expected to add one more twicker as option for Captain Ponting? I guess no, cause Australia always believe India is susectable to good quality fast bowling ~ no matter how the pitch is! They plan to bombard Indian batters with bouncers & yorkers mixed with emmaculate line & length at good pace.
-Australia A squad to Pakistan was also announced, where you'll find just one name - Stuart McGill as known. Cameroon White played 5-6 One day Internationals during 2006 Commonwealth Bank series but rest of players in 14 member squad of Australia A are extremely new. The logic is to let these youngsters (all of them are in their 20s) gain valuable experience on Pakistan pitches before the major tour by national cricket team starts in March 2008.

Australia A squad to Pakistan : Adam Voges (c), Cameroon White (vc), Cullen Bailey, Doug Bollinger, Dan Cullen, Ben Hilfenhaus, James Hopes, David Hussey, Phil Jaques, Andrew McDonald, Stuard MacGill, Ashleyy Noffke, Chris Rogers & Luke Ronchi.

Australia A will play test & 3 one day first class match against PAkistan A side from 1st september to 22nd september this year.
