If you are looking for the real TV highlights with bat and ball, action
and replays, four and sixes then you better try Doordarshan at 2200hrs.
That if you don't have Tensports at your place. Following are just
words - explaining what you may not have noticed during the first days
play..
All timing are according to IST. 0956 - Injaman wins the toss and expresses his desire to bat first...in some language. Certainly not English!! 1015 - Shoaib Mallik and Salman Butt face the first over from Pathan and hardly leave anything alone, as nearly all openers do in trying to understand the wicket. We notice a bandage over Dhoni's left eye, probably he is being practicing bouncers quite a lot. 1023 - Yuvraj at short leg, Mallik batting. He plays towards mid-wicket and starts for a single. Butt responds but takes too much time when they decide otherwise. And meanwhile, Yuvraj picks up the ball one handed and breaks the stumps with just one wicket to aim at. Great run out dismissal!! 1042 - Pakistani Batsmen hardly leaving any balls and trying to dominate the bowling, but still run rate very much under control. 1055 - The TV informs as that the highest total at Lahore is 699 for 5 wickets, also made by Pakistan, against us in 1989. 1110 - Pathan and Agrakar look really tired and Ganguly given the ball.. he over steps the second ball. 1122 - Tendulkar tries to hit the stumps but fails and replays show that Younis Khan wasn't grounding his bat and would have been out if Tendulkar didn't miss. 1127 - In only his second over, Ganguly produces an edge but Dravid had given him only one slip. Ball sails down the second slip, which comes right after that ball.. 1141 - Harbhajan comes into the attack and gets some real turn from the wicket. Commentators predict its just because of MOISTURE. And then we had lunch and after that, cricket was pretty boring as I was supporting India. I remember getting back to recording the match when we got our second wicket - 1146 - Shoaib Mallik(who has married an Indian girl) plays a casual shot - trying to hit over covers and Hrabhajan takes the catch. This was a real window of chance for our team.. BUT.. 1438 - Kumble is denied his second LBW shout. He was hitting the stumps again. Previously of Younis Khan and this time of Mohammad Yousuf. Although umpire can't be abused as ball was hitting the edge of top of leg stump, as Pakistani Batters kept on piling up runs. No signs of a wicket. 1508 - Kumble is denied his third confident shout, but the ball would have missed this time. The score - 185 for 2.  You don't want to know what happened after that. You can read the score cards and know that it was really tough for me to keep looking at the TV. But one thing I noticed which is really worth mentioning - at 1640hrs, Younis Khan takes off for a sharp single but Youhana doesn't respond. In his try to get back to the non-striking end, he comes in the way of the ball which goes quite some far towards the mid-on. He Pakistani vice-captain runs all the way to fetch the ball, and hands it over to the bowler Virendra Sehwag. Everyone on the field, watched the young batsman do the fielding and smiled with Admiration!!
